movies Joker

MCU? Blah.

This? Oh yeah. This looks far more interesting. I'm definitely teased.

Does the look of the Final Trailer have more than a passing similarity to Dark Knight, like I think it does? Like similar color correction or something? That's a nice touch to sink it firmly in the Batman world, if so. Anyway. Looks like it could be really good. And even if it isn't, man, both these trailers are outstanding in their own right.

Looks superb though I have a feeling, going off the too good to be true statement, that the actual film may be a bit more simple. Being someone who doesn’t like the MCU, I love seeing, finally, something fresh in the superhero film world.

Personally, I like the MCU and all the interweaving threads of storyline, but I do agree that Joker looks good. Whether you like the MCU or not, you've got to admit that what James Gunn did with Guardians of the Galaxy was absolutely fantastic. It'll be interesting to see him bring that style and flair to the DC universe and The Suicide Squad film when it eventually comes out in 2021.

I don't know how much credence we want to give critics or Looper, but I thought this was pretty entertaining. I'm intrigued and cautiously hopeful it will be good. :)

Warning: possible spoilers>

had to turn that video off when it was spoiling the king of comedy
sounds interesting and i havent seen it

I don't know that I'd say "meh" to the MCU but "Joker" is getting rave reviews, Phoenix's performance in particular. I definitely have high hopes for this one.

This film looks fantastic. I tend to go the opposite way of most people these days, I disliked "A Quiet Place" more than most. I also didn't care for "John Wick 2 or 3".

Going the comic route for the Joker's origin is a genius idea. Makes much more realistic sense as opposed to him falling into a chemical tub full of bleach. (Just kidding, no offense to fans of the comics).

Haven't seen it myself yet but a bunch or reviews came in praising the joker actor for his work. Apparently it was so intense he would walk off mid scene without explanations and have to say if trailers are even half as good as it makes it look - I'm sold. It doesn't have that cheesy fake type of villain feel to it, more like a story of a man and how it all went off the rails. I am living in Sweden as of now and cinema here is hella expensive for working class people like me but I'm excited to see it !

I agree! I love it when they take a real approach to these franchises.

OMG, how does one not like John Wick 3?! It has dogs!

Haha, I know. I'm different than most. Although, the first was centralized around a dog too. And it was the first to introduce the idea of mixing gun play with wrestling and jujitsu. Or at least, the first main stream film to do it right.

The Joker

None of the other characters are particularly interesting or sympathetic.

You know what though.. maybe it's on purpose.
Maybe thats part of the jokers sociopathic view of society, there is no sympathy for anybody except himself.
Or maybe I'm reading too much into that part lol.

This movie and the performance was great!! Joaquin is the center of the film and in almost every scene.
And what a twist its actually the origin story of pennywise the dancing clown.
Joking about that last part lol - joaquin dances a lot in this movie.

Perfect use of ambiguity in this film.
Everything that we see happen is real and we know its real... but the stuff that is offscreen that the joker didnt personally see we cant be sure about what really happened. And it never goes off the deep end like american psycho where he is feeding cats to atms and blowing up cars with bullets.

Everything in this film seems quite grounded in reality and I really appreciate that style of film making.
And the transition from villian to supervillain is such a brilliant moment that makes perfect sense how someone can attain supervillain status and what that power means / how that power manifests.

I'd say the script delivered.

I found it flabby - overall needed to be trimmed by about 15 minutes.

Also that damn cello! I get that it's depressing and sad and everything else. But by the 5th time it came on, I was ready to throw things at the screen. There's plenty of other instruments/ways to signify that.

The actors were terrific though.

I'd give it a solid B - I expected better.
