Tripod with wheels that goes straight without a track?

Howdy. :D

Is there a wheeled tripod that locks the wheels parallel to each other so it can be moved in a straight line without a track? Preferably under $100. I could splurge a bit if necessary.

Welcome to indietalk! Yes there is a wheeled tripod that locks.

Check out the B&H website - a great source for equipment. Type
"wheeled tripod" into their search function. You're going to have
to spend a little more than your budget.

A rep in the tripod section of B&H said no such thing exists. :/

Reason I'm asking is, I'm pretty sure I'd need a permit and insurance to film with a track in NYC. But tripods don't require a permit. A tripod with wheels that can be fixed parallel to each other would be great. I'm kinda surprised this isn't a standard feature on wheeled tripods.

Yep. It's called a stroller (like, actual baby stroller). Used one in place of a dolly on a music video I shot and you'd never know the difference.

Now that's thinking! Certainly no need for a permit to push a stroller.

In that case, might as well use the shopping cart I have.

Still would be nice if there were a professional, heavy duty wheeled tripod that went straight on it own.

Yup that's one trick Some people use wheel tripods, some people use literal baby strollers, some people use a wheelchair and push the cameraman around in that. I've seen one shot where someone used rollerblades on the cameraman.

Shopping cart too. ;)

You can also borrow a flat lumber cart from a home depot/lowe's just talk to the mgr. Tripod and operator fit on cart and can be pushed smoothly.

That's terrible. I have always had great experiences at B&H.

And then there are these:

I wonder why the rep said these don't exist?

To be fair, it's not clear on those whether "locking" refers to orientation or spin. The rep said that you could lock the wheels so they don't spin, but they'd still swivel.

Not in my experience. While a wheeled tripod is not as sturdy as
a dolly the wheels do lock and do not swivel. But if you are certain
that these will not meet your needs then it does seem that what
you want doesn't exist.
