NON sexualized female lead movies

I'm trying to compile a list of recent (2000 or newer) movies, with a lead female character that aren't sexualized (aka non leather wearing or no shirt skirt) and kicking ass.

I can only come up with several titles:

Flightplan
Salt
Silent Hill

What else?

Ah thanks.

I just looked up Nicole Kidmand and j. foster movies. Pretty much everything by them fits my category :-D

As I no doubt get in trouble.

What's the fun in that....
Imagine the emotionally barren PC world of the future where being aroused or stimulated is so far passed illegal that the emotions are forgotten.

Lol @ wearing leather. Why does that matter....also what do you mean by sexualized? Angelie Jolie is a sex symbol, so why did you add Salt?

I'll compile my lst by they may go against your rules. My list is strong female leads.

Vale's Female Leads
- Alien
- The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
- Kick Ass (the little girl)
- The Legend of Korra (tv show, but the most popular on Nick)
- Million Dollar Baby

Vale, good call with Million Dollar Baby. Mo Cuishle is one of my favorite characters of all time, from any genre.

Dragon Tattoo isn't sexualized? :weird:

Hit-Girl is borderline. So long as you're not F'd in the head, no adult would see her as a sex-object, but I'm sure pretty much every 13-year-old boy did, and her costume had something to do with that.

MDM, good call on the Alien series. Ripley is the best!

Skin-tight leather outfit, with the top half of the jacket unzipped. Nothing sexual about that. Beatrix Kiddo is definitely sexualized. Plus, there is the near-rape scene. I think that has at least a little to do with sex.
Oh no you don't. Beatrix spends the whole four hours of her saga whooping ass, and by your logic of sexualized apparel and "sex scenes" (there are none, not even rape in Kill Bill), Elizabeth from Prometheus is sexualized as well. Did you forget her nude scene and equally skin-tight outfit?

Tarantino is a weird dude, but with Kill Bill he was not aiming to make Beatrix attractive. He was trying to make her scary as hell.

I believe the phrase you're looking for is "oh no, you didn't". ;)

Yeah, Dr. Shaw is hotter than hell. Hooray for sex-objects! :P Though, I didn't find her nude scene to be all that sexually arousing. :weird:

Beatrix is a great character; I love her. But skin-tight leather is not worn for comfort, or flexibility (something that comes in handy during high-flying kung-fu). Skin-tight leather is worn to make someone look hot. Sexualization complete. If all Tarantino wanted was to make her scary as hell, she would've worn stained sweat-pants, a flannel shirt, and a mullet.

Wow, we're nerds. Why are we arguing about this?

I think this betrays a complete misunderstanding of Tarantino and what he was doing with Kill Bill.

Because a women is killing people with a samurai sword, that somehow makes it empowering? Sexualisation and actual sex are two very different things, the purpose of the Bride is to appeal to a certain type of male fantasy (one that has long been catered to in Asian cinema) of having glamorous, sexy women fighting other glamorous, sexy women (and some men) in extremely tight outfits.

The relationship between sex and violence is age old and predates Shakespeare and the classical poets. Kill Bill is like a clothed porno- a prolonged adolescent male fantasy- a completely anti-feminist movie dressed up sheep's clothing. I'm not sure I've met a single woman who doesn't dislike that film.

I actually think it's bad that there's a generation of film watchers (and, dare I say it, makers) coming through who think that The Bride is a 'strong female character'.
