Filmmaking takes time and money (making which takes time)... currently most of us are funding our efforts out of our own pockets (unless you're willing to contribute). Most of the industry requires you are located at a place where you're near filmmaking and know folks who are already in the industry. If these are not the case, as is the case for many of us, we don't get chances to learn to make films in the standard apprenticing way that the industry promotes.
So, we spend time learning and moving forward slowly as we work 2-3 jobs to fund our addiction to making films. While doing so, we spectate, in the same way that writers read. Soaking, learning, immersing ourselves in visual storytelling to attempt to improve ourselves... how about you? Spectator or filmmaker?
(not to mention that not everyone here fits the mold of writer, producer, director, editor filmmaker that would lead to that sort of output). I'm most happy to be just a DP, just a Director or just a Producer on any given project. I've done more than a dozen, not all of which I have the rights to post... so you don't see them here... only the 9 or 10 that I have the rights to I'm currently working on my new reel showcasing some of my new commercial work that I do have permission to show. I'm sure others are in the same boat... and not all of us are at the stage where we're producing output yet...
