Wierd Format

Hi, I am really new when it comes to filming. I bought this mini DVD handheld camera and am trying to edit some of the footage, but it comes out in this wierd format called VOB. I can't do much with it. I can't edit it, and when I try and change the format to an AVI or something the sound gets really bad. Any ideas on what I can do or what I'm doing wrong?

You need to extract the mpeg2 from the VOB.

Those cameras that record straight to DVD were a real pita, when they came out.

I can't think of the name of the software you need, off the top of my head. I recall it was third-party.

Sounds technical...lol I think I can handle it though, if I could just find out how to do that...any ideas?

Bit Ripper - it's free.

Place DVD in your computer's DVD player, fiddle with a few settings and it will convert any non-protected DVDs into mpeg format. Hopefully your video editing software handles MPEG format. (Mine didn't, back at the time, requiring another tool to convert to AVI. Huge headache.)

Have fun. :)
