I've only seen Sideways which I enjoyed a lot, but it wasn't as good as some of the other films that got overlooked for one reason or the other (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Incredibles, The Passion of the Christ).

I was planning on seeing Finding Neverland last night, but circumstances prevented it. Might see it today.

I will also see Ray soon (hopefully before next Sunday), it's the next in line on my Netflix queue.

I probably won't see The Aviator or Million Dollar Baby until the DVD release. I'm not a big fan of either Scorcese or Eastwood.

Right now, my favorite would have to be Sideways because a) it's the only one I've seen and b) I'm a fan of Payne's work and this is his best so far. But I wish there could be some kind of mistake made Oscar night in which whoever is presenting the Best Picture award accidentally says The Incredibles.

I've oinly seen The Aviator, getting Ray tomorrow and going to see Finding Neverland this week so will be able to have a better idea soon. :huh:
 
I've seen all five, and I honestly can't pick a favorite, although Ray is far away my least favorite of the lot. They all have their own distinctive qualities. Aviator has the terrific scale of an epic, Ray has Foxx's unbelievable performance, Million Dollar Baby has the thought-provoking drama, Sideways has the quirky but deep characters, and Finding Neverland has the genuinely sentimental and emotional story.

If I had to pick, it'd be The Aviator.
 
Best picture will be RAY. Jamie Foxx kicked butt, it's well written, it's about show biz, it's historically significant, and we all love the music.

MILLION DOLLAR BABY deserves best pic but probably won't get it. Just my gut feeling about the academy. I think the academy picks films that will give you a warm fuzzy feeling at the end. It deserves to win though.

Possible spoiler will be AVIATOR. I don't think it will win however. RAY is a better told biography. It delved into Ray's childhood with greater depth.. Aviator just had one cryptic scene w/ Hughes and his mom. A film about a rich white guy who flies planes will not win. The academy will apparently love all of those costumes though..

Sideways is good but... best picture? Dunno.. I liked it but it would be frustrating for me to see a film awarded "best picture" that could have been done by a "truly indie" director for 150 to 200k -- or 50K with unpaid cast/crew.

What happened to KINSEY? I thought that would get a nom..

What's he nominated for? Director and what else? I don't recall if he got an acting nod, but even if he did, Fox is all but assured a win there. Though Leo is a possible spoiler there.

I think it'll come down to Eastwood and Scorsese for director. My gut tells me eastwood will get it. MDB engaged the public more than Aviator. the latter, while critically acclaimed, hasn't created much buzz among the public. I think that counts to the academy. The Aviator would be a safe choice for best picture, but the thing that scorsese has going against him is that this picture is similar to past works he's done -- Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Casino. He's a master at using his stylized vision to study troubled chartacters, but it's old ground for him. Eastwood tends to stay out of his films (well, aside from literally being in some of them) and just tell the story. Every film is unique with him because every story he tells is unique (or at least distinctive). It seems like Scorsese has already made the Aviator. So, I think Eastwood wins for director. And I think MDB takes best picture.
