Weird Question but important.

How do you make a title scene for a short. I don't know what to call it:huh: but its when right at the first part of the film the title shows up with the names of the cast. I want to make it look cool but realistic. This is a pretty silly question but I'm a newb and have no idea.

Thanks in advance!

What are you using to edit? Most application have a quick easy title insert. If you want something more professional looking you'd probably want to try a 3D app. or maybe photoshop.

Their are lots of ways to make titles in different software.

Their are whole company that just do titles.

If you just want something really simple, with just a couple names, I could do it for you. Since I already know how to do it, it would not take but a minute. I wouldn't charge you anything.

If you'd rather do it yourself, perhaps you could tell us what software you use and we could better help you.

There are basic and more complex creative approaches as well.

A few might be:

1. Text layered over opening (Perhaps establishing wide shot) footage.

2. Cut from opening footage to black screen with (for example) white text.

3. Creating a visual scenario in keeping with the film’s theme or overall
concept that text is placed upon. This can spark visual subtext and/or
set the “tone” for what is to follow. One example of this would be the
opening credits of the show Dexter.

4. Creating a visual scenario not in keeping with the film’s theme or concept,
but still interesting to look at, like Stop Motion Animation of fridge magnets or
children’s blocks spelling things out.

For a short you might want to keep the focus on the film itself and use
a less is more approach of simple text over footage, or cut to black and add text.

Also consider staying away from hard to read or too intricate of fonts.

-Thanks-

I know this isn't what you asked...

I don't like opening credits in short films. I like the title
and then get right into it. A 60 second creative, cool
but realistic opening title sequence in a five or six
minute film is like an 18 minute title sequence on a
90 minute film.

That said, I like Buddy's suggestions.

I'm not sure what you're asking, DirectorT. Are you
asking about the creative aspect of a title sequence
or how to use your editing software to put in the
title of your movie and the actors names?

Cool! Thanks guys for your input. I like and understand what Buddy and Directorik are saying. Thanks guys and I think I'm gonna stick with just the title coming up and going roght into the short. Thanks ABC for the offer but I'd like to put my own personal twist to things. Again- thank you all!

Oh man I hate the long ones, some low budget filmmakers think lots of important names makes it look like a better film... and Hollywood does it too, I hate the long ones with long intervals in between credits... the film's already started, and another title pops up.... ugh!
