Valhalla Rising (wow!)

Just finished watching Valhalla Rising. Incredible film on so many levels: stunning cinematography, beautifully gritty costumes, bone rattling sound design, atmospheric score, and a main character with one eye and
zero none no dialog
.

It almost waxed avant-garde at certain points, which was a breath of fresh air, especially with such a capable director and production team at the wheel.

Cineasts will not be disappointed.

Next on my list is Bronson.

We must have both watched this movie just a couple hours apart lol. My opinion is netflix completely botched the description. I was expecting vikings to be fighting invisible demons. What I got was people staring off into the distance. Don't get me wrong the movie was very atmospheric and the cinematography was beautiful however my expectations of demon slaughtering vikings were not met and made me disappointed.

Oh! I hadn't read the description at all, but saw a trailer for it months ago on Apple's site and thought "there's a movie I'd like to see". I thought the music was killer.

This isn't the trailer I saw and doesn't really do the film justice, but it's the "official" trailer.

Does this mean that there are a lot of drawn out shots of staring? Is the pace really slow? I watched the second trailer (above) and it looks like a fair amount of action.

Not that it could artfully compare, but I watched CENTURION and enjoyed it. Not always, but I'm usually game for these kinds of movies - PATHFINDER, 13TH WARRIOR, etc. You can probably imagine how much the sci-fi geek in me appreciated OUTLANDER.

Yes its a really really really slow movie with lots of staring and glaring. Pathfinder also sucked but Outlander was amazing.

I liked Outlander. Great concept, and they did it justice.

Mike, I think you will dig the film. There is some serious brutality, bloodshed, and gut-wrenching violence. No, it's not jam-packed with action, but when there is action, it's abrupt, to the point and visceral.

I'd say that the cinematography (locations!), sound design and music are top rate. But if someone is expecting a traditional narrative with traditional pacing and such, this may not be the movie for them.

It's art house... with an edge.

Well, I could watch Wings of Desire and Paris, Texas back to back so I suppose it is a matter of what one is used to watching.

I'd say that the pacing was deliberate and evocative. Prepare to enjoy the scenery because you get to stare at it along with the cast.

Thanks, Columbus. Perhaps, I will temper expectations with a Red Bull and popcorn. Of the films I mentioned, PATHFINDER did take some patience, but I liked the cliff scene, near the end.

I'll have to check it out. Thanks.
