Using a pseudonym

Is it acceptable? I have a very unusual name, and i wouldn´t like to attach it to my first few shorts. Is it acceptable to use a pseudonym?

Why wouldn't you want your name to stand out? Seems people would be more likely to remember it! Unless it's Roger Young-Boyes or something. (I actually once had to call someone with that name when I worked at a call centre) :)

Yes, it's acceptable, and quite easily within the industry, albeit it's more often practiced with actors rather than director/producers.

I´m talking about me choosing my own nickname instead of using a generic one.

Why wouldn't you want your name to stand out?

I´m a very private guy and i dont want to link my family name to whatever is i end up doing. Especially if it is something a little more "R rated".

I'm the same way I guess. I Use my Middle name as my first, and my mom's maiden name as my last. If my parents knew what kind of shows I worked on, they would go Ape Shit crazy.

Can you see a respectable and renowned director/writer named Fernando Echeverria?

Why not? Why is that any different than Federico Fellini or Alfred Hitchcock or Akira Kurosawa or Stanley Kubrick or Ingmar Bergman or Sergei Eisenstein or Andrei Tarkovsky or François Truffaut or Ernst Lubitsch or Quentin Tarantino or Sidney Lumet. Quite different and memorable, it stands out. Much better than something bland like Bill Jones or Sam Smith or John Doe - or Alan Smithee.
