Turret Model Problems

I am using a pivoting model of a turret (TF2) in a low budget film it is sitting on some cardboard which is being used as a barricade. The script calls for it turning but I can't see a way to do that easily because the only way I can think of is to use a ruler or stick to pivot the model. That is all good if I have to but the ruler would probably be seen in the shot. Any ideas on how to avoid this????

A decent picture would help us better figure a solution.
It is a nerf n-strike vulcan. Here you go.

You don't have to have the entire turret in frame, do you?

Just show 3/4 of the nerf-gun, and have someone actually rotate it. Heck they could even be firing it off-camera, too.

.

A fair beginning.

That is a "machine gun" mounted on a tripod.
Is the gun going to be re-mounted on a turret - if so, can we have a pic of that, pls? - or did you say turret while meaning tripod?
Also, in the film story how is the gun supposed to be be moved? Man or machine rotating and aiming?

Gun turrets: All mounted on a circular pivot base, moved by a mechanized device shielded by armour.

Gun tripods: Just like your included image - a gun on a tripod that an exposed operator pivots.

What NLE are you editing with?
Does it have greenscreen or chromakeying capabilities?
Do you have Adobe After Effects?

Team Fortress 2 was the thing we were going off. In that is says Turret and it is a "machine gun" mounted on a tripod as you said so yeah. Not saying you're wrong though....

Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
No
Yes It is CS4

why, is your story about the love lives of turrets? :)

Just a joke..

I think your original idea of a stick or ruler is your least expensive while looking good option.

You might mount the turret to a cheep lazy Susan, then find a way to rotate the Lazy Susan from a hidden position.

Greenscreen it. You could use a green ruler or stick and just key it out afterwards.
