To you all

I actually didn't really check which camera you were talking about, just took your word for the footage quality not being great. Looks like a pretty sick camera to me :D

Maybe we should set a lower quality bar. The primary means of distribution would have to be via the Internet in one form or another, but it would be nice to get it screened somewhere if it's any good. I think I would defer to the more technically wise people on what the minimum specifications should be....

Oh and there goes Murdock being his usual irreverent self...

Definitely not the best available, but it was at one time a pretty expensive setup. To put all this together when it was new would've cost you over $10K. Naturally, I paid a lot less for it. I bought it as a learning tool (why it has the manual lens) and wasn't planning a feature film for it:

I have to say that that is one hot setup.

I think it's a shame that these beautiful cameras have, in a way, been made redundant by the rise of DSLRs. That's what a video camera is supposed to look like :)

Are you not tempted to try and sell it?

@mahdy: As VPTurner says I'm pretty confident that we can put together a script collectively. But we need to know what we have to work with before we write the script. If we write a whole section set in Cypress, Texas and then it turns out that the Canon XL1s isn't good enough quality, we're going to have to rewrite the whole thing...

@VPTurner... can I have her number?? (well, I aint talking abt that girl man.. ur setup looks hotter than that girl even..:D

well, as I have less idea about footage conversion and audio, I'd better shut up for now..

btw, I don't think we have to have personal camera to work.. lets say Nick has a broadcast camera whether I have a dSLR..in that case we can work with Nick's camera..same with other guys..

I personally prefer bot to choose HD ..

Cool that one year after Pixel abandoned the project something
similar gets picked up. I would love to see one happen - as I said
a year ago.

I wonder why Pixel gave up.

Has anyone read the "Theives World" series? They setup a world and a common set of characters that exist in the world, then the other writers riffed off of that info using their own characters and segment within that world. The writers weren't allowed to kill off each others characters and the editors then interleaved the stories into chapters that worked the overall story to a denoument.

I have to say that the reason I picked up this thread is that we were having a bit of a go at Pixel on another thread, so I looked through his posted threads and saw one which was actually the same idea that I'd proposed in the Secret Santa thread. To be honest the reason he gave up is probably because he left the board and only vary rarely seems to have returned. This sort of project probably requires the commitment of regular members only, especially when it's going to take a long time.

@knightly I'll have to research that series but that certainly seems like a possible way of getting around the whole writing issue. But before we start writing we would need to know who, what and where we have to work with. If I was directing a segment in London (for example) then I would have to say straight away that I would be unlikely to be able to use more than five different actors, so that would have to be factored in at the writing stage.

I think this is definitely worth giving a go. What would be people say about me making a thread where people can register interest/ideas and we can start brainstorming about making this feasible?

More links at the bottom of that page.

Much obliged. That is interesting, although they seem to be writing entire novels based on a collective world rather than one collective novel. Just out of interest, are they any good?

But we could definitely use this as a template for coming up with the world in which the film is set, the characters in the film and the events of the film. Then we should be able to speedily and consistantly translate that into a screenplay.

I liked the series. One of the drawbacks to this approach is that I'm not a writer... I usually leave that to others on my team.

but you could share your ideas or concepts about the story..I mean I don't think you are telling them to write a script on thieves world, are you?

[u know what? since almost everyone of us has own story, it's better to work on basis of a great novel or something like that.. at least I will not resign just because you choose Nick's story, not mine  ]

Sure we could have people presenting entire screenplays but I think one of the good things that could come of running this as a community is that everyone can write their 'short film' in a way that both relates to the overall idea but is also practical for them.

Also we've kind of moved discussion over to the thread entitled The Community Brainstorming Thread. I think it's probably best to keep everything under one roof...
