The Black Death Decoded?

The Seventh Seal is the first that comes to mind!
Yup.

(ed. note: The black plague was so deadly because germ theory hadn't been developed yet.)

I'd really, really like to see a movie about John Snow and the cholera epidemic in England.

EDIT: They could call it "Cholera in the time of Cholera"

Yet another Rutger Hauer film... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089153/
Flesh+Blood AKA The Rose and the Sword.

Oh cool. That must have been one of Jennifer Jason Leigh's first films? There was a time when Rutger Hauer was The Man! Here I go getting nostalgic.

I'm trying to think of other films I've seen with it as a story component. But you know, if you google Black Death, it's amazing, the film Black Death (2010) dominates the finds for about I-don't-know-how many pages. Is that chance, or did they sow that up somehow?

I think there was this critically acclaimed Italian or French or I don't know what movie in the 90s(?), something to do with a princess? I think the inquistion comes to town and it ends with the arrival of the plague.

I kind of hate to bring the Black Death up again, but I was browsing through Netflix for films to add to my instant queue and found the one I was trying to recall (it's just a small part of the film). Been a while, I plan on watching it again. Ooo, Colin Furth's in it. Cool. Worth checking out? A 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes ain't too bad, right? Oh. Just watched the trailer and saw it has a really nice cast, including Ian Holm.

Funny i should come across this thread now. Just yesterday i was talking with someone and they were wondering how come there weren't more movies on the subject.

In Phantom of the Opera (old & new), the Phantom shows up at the masquerade in his Red Death costume, which is symbolic of mass epidemics in general. (and a bit of personal symbolism, for the Phantom)

The Mask of the Red Death (the Poe story) was itself turned into a film with Vincent Price.

Oh, also Stephen King's The Stand. Very entertaining tv miniseries was made.

Not chance, but not necessarily something they did - it's just the way google works. The single most important element on a page as far as google is concerned is the title that appears at the top of your browser - since the film is named 'Black Death' it ends up in the title of just about any page referring to it. A film which has the black death as an element isn't likely to have that.

Good lesson there for filmmakers looking to promote online, make sure your movie title is in every page title on your site - I'm amazed at how often even this is overlooked - but also figure out a way to work in the themes/subject of your film in the page title as well. The movie 'Black Death' has the title locked in to google rankings - but doesn't show up when you search for something like 'plague movie'.
