Super Summer Contest Stage Two!

Sorry to have to let the team down, but I won’t be able to participate in Stage 2. Trying to avoid anything I’ve had a hand in writing, only leaves a few options, none of which I feel I could shoot at my level.

Sorry! :(

I keep meaning to bump this so that people see it. Feel free to take your time and read them in blocks, just remember to come back here and add your thoughts when/once you can!

:)

1 - Insertion. This'll make the foundation for some clever sci-fi.
2 - The Joy. A touch sappy, but the conflict is better than I would have been able to develop myself.
3 - Gash. Surprisingly clever.

Great effort, everyone!

I hope we can do another one of these in about another six months.

Any one have any nebulous or even concrete notions of making a short of any of these?

I would've loved to have made one of these but it doesn't look like it's going to be possible (unless I do a stop motion animation...). I really do hope that someone does but I think it's been a good exercise all the same :)

The contest has gone further than most do on forums. It's an accomplishment in itself. And hopefully everyone will get to see a few short films once it's done :)

How long do we have to submit a stage three, might do the one I wrote.

I've just read them all, at last...

Actor's call back - Interesting, well written. Reminds me of David Lean's Brief Encounter.

Gash - Very good beginning. Interesting characters and development. The problem I had with it was: No way Adriana will throw a machete at her friend Heidi, only because they assume they are in situation similar to the film Chainsaw Massacre. Otherwise. I liked the twist at the end.

Insertion - Very good!

The joy - Interesting. I have a question, though. Why do they want to destroy this race? ( Also, how did they get the cloths to change? :) )

Mantis - I was engaged in the story, but at the end I felt a little bit disappointed. I wished the main character had done something to save the hitchhiker's next victim...

Producer - I was pleasantly surprised. It felt fresh.

ABC (1) - I blame my English, but I didn't totally get it somehow...

ABC (2) - Still my favorite story.

So:
1. ABC (2)
2. Insertion
3. The Joy

Yay!

And great comments on all eight scripts!
Super extra cool!

I'm pretty sure there's no deadline at all on stage three.
At the rate people seem to be moving on these things... Next summer? Next Christmas? I dunno.

In that case (if there isn't any deadline), I might start preparing to shoot ABC (2) :)

Are you really? I was gonna do that as well, I thought it would be easy with a lack of money lol.

If you're really gonna do it I'll try and mess with another one that has sparse location demand and minimal external resources.

There's nothing stopping both of you shooting the same story, no doubt you'll change plenty of it anyway. And as I wrote the original short, I'd love to see as many versions as possible!

p.s. Where's Nick to announce a winner on Stage Two???

I whole-heartedly second the motion!

It's good to see how two directors approach the same script with different visions using different resources.

From a story writing perspective there's always the vision a writer has in their mind, but then what the budget allows, what the talent resource pool is, what the available setting location limitations are, and editing for timing and delivery all come into play on how different the same script can come out.

Mine's gonna be so much cooler kinglis, you're going down to china town lol :P
