Shooting in a school gymnasium

Does anyone have anyone have experience shooting a school gymnasium?

I need a sports arena with grandstands for wrestling matches in my script.

A school gymn seems to be.the best solution.

I am considering shooting wrestling matches to entertain Amazon soldiers in the script of I, Creator 3 - The Singularity inside the gymnasium of a school. The gymnasium will have grandstands for an audience and crash matts for the wrestlers to do their stunts on so they can avoid injury. They will be stunt players with wrestling experience.

The audio in such a place will undoubtedly be horrible and have to be ADRed. But, it will have the right look for the location.

One potential problem I can think of is the school may want to charge a lot of money or not allow stunts for safety concerns. I have a similar concern looking for a dojo for stunt rehearsals for my first feature. I do carry insurance for stunts when we shoot. But, that doesn't stop some places from worrying. And, I did invest in my own gymnastic crash matt for actors' safety. Their safety always comes first.

Schools are typically pretty easy to rent out as long as there aren't any events going on. It's going to look like a school gymnasium though, seems like it would take air to dress it up. Wood floors, wood bleachers and banners/logos everywhere.

What about an actual amatuer wrestling/boxing ring? You could even do two locations. A gym with a ring for the action, bleachers elsewhere for the spectators.

In my experience, there are two types of schools that rent out their facilities. Those who charge a lot and those who don't. It's the same for most other locations. Your fears are founded as schools are usually semi-versed in legal liability due to them having a lot of children on the premises. The best suggestion I can give you is to talk to them. Be up front, but not too up front. Show that you're organized, that you've mitigated the risks and you're covered by insurance if anything does go wrong. Ask if they have any concerns or requirements and work out if you're a good fit together. It's really as simple as that. If their price is too high, then contact the next school on your list. Asking first if they have a Gymnasium that they hire out and their price would be by first two questions. Going on to all the details before you find out if it's within your budget seems like a waste of time to me. Most of this can be done over the telephone with the finer details/venue scout done in person. It's not like there's only one or two schools in your country.

Cost was only one question. Sweetie brought up the other concerns about them worrying about a stunt player getting injured. I do know enough stunt professionals who just shake off minor injuries such as business as usual without any complaints. They all say black and blues comes with the job.
