RIP Andy

You might, like me, know him as Sheriff Andy, or to you he might be Matlock.

Thanks for all the years of great TV!

RIP Andy Griffith :(

Here's my Andy/Ron story...

I worked in a local music store for a few years while I was getting my studio off the ground. One Saturday morning a familiar face walked in - Ron Howard!!! He walked right up to me and said he had a guitar that he needed repaired. I opened the case and it was really old and beaten up.

I called over our resident guitar guy, Mike. He's really good; lots of the big local names come to him for their guitar repairs. Mike took it out of the case, and looked it over. He suggested that a new guitar of even modest quality would be less expensive than trying to restore the one Ron Howard had brought in.

Then Ron Howard told us a story; this is the guitar that Andy Griffith played throughout Mayberry RFD/The Andy Griffith Show. He wasn't completely sure, but it may also have been the guitar he played in "A Face In The Crowd." Andy Griffith gave him the guitar when the TV series ended.

Needless to say, Mike did a phenomenal job restoring the guitar. He always did anyway, but he put extra care into that one.

BTW, Ron Howard is a really nice guy.

I grew up watching a lot of Matlock, so it's kind of sad to hear. On the other hand it's inspired me to do some heavy editing with Premiere and create a crossover trailer for Matlock and Perry Mason. I just haven't settled on who their client will be.

Two VERY iconic characters from two very different eras of television. Aside from anything else, that's a fantastic achievment for a career.

Oh, and great story, Alcove!

I f you haven't seen A Face in the Crowd you should. Andy Griffith as the folksy guitar playing nice guy who behind the scenes has become the biggest lying, stealing, cheating, downright evil SOB you ever saw.

Ditto that movie! Saw it in film school.

RIP!

Yeah, what a great story, Alcove.

Yep, as, I suppose, a child partly raised on TV reruns, well, The Andy Griffith Show reruns was one of them. =)

RIP.
