Producers: Finished film? Need distribution? READ

Any chance for a company name or IMDB link? A faceless ad like this with a hotmail email has a certain, fishy feeling to it.

I'm not saying you are at all, just that some credentials would be nice so producers like us can make an educated decision :)

Though it's true that you certainly can't harm me by viewing my trailer, you did ask for my phone number and email. Personally, I share my email freely, but the only people who get my phone number are people or companies I know. I can understand where Paul is coming from -- a company name would be nice.

So, I'll gladly send you my trailer, just not my phone number. My instincts tell me that you're legit, but I think Paul and I are only trying to communicate that more people might be more trusting if we knew who you were. Nevertheless, best of luck, and I hope to hear from you. :)

I got you, and I can understand your reasons, just a heads up is all. I actually don't have a feature on hand ready to go, but if I did, like CF I'd probably send a trailer in too.

Best of luck!

A projection of a "they're out to get me" persona rarely leads to positive connections and
successful business. I am a producer, an executive producer, and a producers' consultant. I've
only produced one film that is complete, so if that's not good enough for you, I'm okay with that.
I have, however, built an extensive network of industry contacts over the last 5 years and finally
my 60 hour work weeks are starting to pay off.

ABOUT US:
We are currently producing a $20M feature film and have A-list already attached, and are working
with three possible investors in September. We executive produce and have MG backed lenders,
as well as matching funders we can put producers in touch with to structure debt, gap, supergap
and mezzanine financing. We have developed our distributor relationships for years and we work
with very small mom and pops, to internationally known distributors who handle major titles
annually. We have been promised LOIs for MGs on three major pictures that have a combined
budget total of $45M, and have Academy Award nominated producers and directors attached on
all three. Additionally we are expecting closings in September for two films that were finished and
seeking distribution, one is a thriller, the other animation. Each from different producing teams
and each going to close with different distributors of note. And both projects were presented to
us less than 3 weeks ago. We are retooling our website currently to reflect our changing business
model, and also don't want a glut of email going through our servers. Hotmail is a dependable mail
site to just grab links to trailers so my regular email box doesn't fill up and interfere with my daily
producing activities. We love filmmakers and ARE filmmakers ourselves. We don't really want to work
with anyone who has a chip on their shoulder as this business is tough enough without adding that
to the mix. We wish everyone success, and we hope that we can help some of you achieve your goals
as filmmakers. We offer a valuable service to producers but we already have about 12 projects' producers
working to gather up all their necessary documents to move forward with either our distributors or our
lenders, so we placed this post simply to see what hidden jewels might be found here. I hope to meet
some great producers and directors here and perhaps we can be of assistance, but we are here to help
filmmakers realize their vision, create business for ourselves, and have a good time doing it. We are
not here, however, to take flack.

IF this isn't enough information, then I can't help you, and I wish you great success with your online
self-distribution...it's not easy, but it's possible. Best of luck to everyone and we wish continued
success to all.

Asking for basic information, such as a website or business name, is quite common in pretty much any industry I can think of. Heck, on the scale of business you're talking about you should have no problem dropping your own name, or those you're working with whose names we'd recognise.

Cool. Who are they?

Very true.

It's also good to understand what happens often on messageboards.
People with hotmail accounts offering connections and business deals
who are not what they say they are. Your first post raised red flags
for obvious reasons. Your third told people what they wanted to know.
I'm sure you understand that the anonymity of a message board
allows people to exploit others. You gave no info at all in your first
post - the usual MO of scammers.

We're real, but there's nothing I can do to make you believe it...
Yes there is. This, too, is a typical MO for people running scams. "I can't
tell you information because I don't want too many people crashing
my email." It's clear you are not scamming - but now you know why
your first posts felt that way to your fellow filmmakers.

Being cautious isn't having a chip on your shoulder. Being cautious is
good business. YOU are being cautious with your personal and business
information it shouldn't surprise you that other filmmakers are cautious
about theirs.

When your site is retooled to reflect your changing business model I hope
you will post a link. Congrats on your success!

If a filmmaker is too paranoid to show a trailer, which is all I asked for, then really, this is kind of ridiculous. I am legit...I've listed a ton of things that are in the works with us and the projects we represent. I'm getting an MG tomorrow from a producer's distributor—Tim Robbins starring. We're getting 3 MGs next week from another distributor on 3 pics all budgeted at $15M per project. Every SINGLE thing I've said is true. Yes, there are scammers...there always have been. It IS being overly cautious if you're a filmmaker and you can't even show your trailer when most filmmakers post their trailers everywhere and anywhere that will allow them to to get interest in their FILM and exposure! I didn't ask for anyone's social security number ... geez. This is inane. Our site IS being retooled...this is ALSO TRUTH...and even when/IF I were to post a link to it it still wouldn't tell you anything worthwhile. Business in this town is made through connections, and we've been working quietly, steadily for 5 years building them, and now are finally ready to do lots of business and ARE. If anyone reads the email I put up earlier, above, in this thread they can read about a ton of things we're working on...and that is what anyone might have on their website right....but how do you know that a website is truth...is is verified by ANYONE...no it is not. So there are millions of websites and none of them are verified by any truth police or special counsel. At some point we all have to have a little faith in humanity and drop the paranoia. I would love to help other indie filmmakers, and I CAN, and I AM currently...but this constant scrutiny is a waste of my time. Thought this site would be a good way to connect and help people, but apparently it's more fun to just scrutinize and debate... I'm pulling the ad. Goodnight and good luck.

Good luck. :weird:

Exec, yep I'm Joseph. :)

I think this thread has unnecessarily taken on a bit of the Wild-West nature that the internet tends to incubate (and we all know I ain't throwin' stones for that).

Anyway, I honestly think that the vast majority of us have meant well, but that maybe we're all just not communicating on the same page.

Me, personally? I'm glad you posted this, and I'm glad you emailed back. Cheers!
