outside in acting

Why would anyone want to act in that style? What are its virtues? How could it ever surpass the variant of method? Assuming method was done right.

Because, as Zensteve mentions, each actor comes to the process
in their own way. Many of those who were taught the "outside-in"
method find it works for them. I'm not sure it could surpass any
other method, but what works, works; don't you think?

Outside in can be a good way to get a character developed. Some people like to put on the pirates outfit and build the inner-story from there. At some point you have to pull it inside...and you should always listen and respond to the individual your acting opposite...but to start, sometimes putting on that beard and glasses get you 'in the mood.'

No, I'm not an actor, though I've taken a few classes to help me with my writing.

I like the comment about using a prop or costume. I supposed as long as you get to the "In" part, outside in must be as good as any method.
