In an effort to be clear I should have switched my first two sentences:
"African American producers want the same thing as all producers. The
African American market isn't different than any other market. A new,
unproduced writer doesn't get any kind of special treatment or pass
because of their intended market."
Of course every market is different. My point wasn't about the creative
but about the business. You are correct, Spike Lee is looking for different
scripts than George Lucas. Tyler Perry is looking for different scripts than
Spike Lee. Will Packer is looking for different scripts than Stephani Allian.
But they all are looking for the same thing in a script; something that will
attract top talent in front of and behind the camera. No African American
producer will give special attention to a writer with a script specifically for
the African American market.
You know your script is a great piece of work and you do not want to hear
the jaded old timers throwing you shade. I get that which is why I offered
another possibility.
What producers are you going to sent your script to?
