HOLY CRAP!!! I can't believe you said that -- I was going to suggest that EXACT SAME MOVIE!

Maybe for the same reason as you? I went to Soldier strictly because of David Webb Peoples' name on the screenplay (Blade Runner and Unforgiven...fuggetaboutit). Then I sat there with my jaw in my lap as I witnessed what was probably a very good screenplay reduced to a steaming pile of manure. I felt so bad for Peoples -- despite his impeccable credentials, he's still just another screenwriter at the mercy of tasteless producers and hack directors. I would love to see someone do that movie the justice it deserves.

I was just watching "Runaway" (1984) and thinking this.

BTW, that's a whole lotta sequels & two-parters in just this list alone.
I wonder if at some point in the near future if films will become like car models where the tent-pole foundation just spawns cosmetic changes and occasional upgrades every two years?
New models/film premises will rarely be introduced, only mashed into an existing bloodline.

Apparently there is another movie I need to see!

Caution! Thought the core concept of this movie could be turned into something like "I Robot" you'll have to endure a lot of heavily outdated stuff.

Great idea in this film, but would require massive updating.
