archived-videos My New DIY Steadicam Arm and Vest

thanks for checking it out. I will be posting a step by step and some test footage video soon. i will also be shooting a short film with it here in a week or so. Im still learning how to use it.
 
How much are you thinking for purchasing one? and how much weight can it be adjusted to support (min/max) for the arm.
 
that's awesome that you're in Ft. Worth.. we should get together and work on projects.. I'm always looking to calibrate with other film makers. my studio is in Haltom city

I built the arm and vest to film with DSLR cameras but I'm am working on the a sled to support a heaver camera. as for the arm.. the springs can be changed out to bigger springs for heaver cameras. I am working on that at the moment. so at the moment the rig can support up to 10 lbs..
 
I did notice that you're shots seem to sway a bit. I think that would be due to not having the "Moment of Inertia" dialed in quite right. That is the EXACT balance point of the sled you're using:

So basically, if you have more but still equal weight at either side of the gimbal... you should be able to have your camera resist movement more. Making sure the balance is exact in all directions will prevent it as well from losing equilibrium due to inertia increasing in one direction more than any other at any given moment.

The demo I was looking for was a guy with a broom handle grabbing it exactly in the middle of the mass and moving it back and forth, side to side and having it fail to generate any rotation around the point he was grabbing.

Wow that is real nice. I liked your jib crane too. You shop looks nice. Do you have a band too because I saw the drums and the DJ booth. Looks sweet.

thanks.. I shoot music videos, produce beats and build all kinds of stuff. I kinda do everything in my shop. everyday is something different.
 
I was thinking $400 for both arm and vest. lemme know what ya think and interests..
I'm currently using the Flycam Nano DSLR for the sledge. I am shooting a short film and plan on have it up soon for examples.

I am working on a sledge of my own bc the Flycam is really a pain in the but to balance.. but til them ima use what i have.
