My half assed attempt at get funding (not from you)

Anyone who reads my posts pretty much knows I'm not exactly normal.

Here's my situation: I'm broke, unemployed, not even close to having an interview for a job, and unemployment decided they want $7000 back. They say they gave me an extension I wasn't suppose to receive. Yeah, nice. So, I don't have money to hire people to help me find backers.

Before Unemployment threw me into a deep depression, I was working on demos for a "Pop Musical" I'd like to shoot. This is wholesome family entertainment, with not a cuss, no nudity, no sex, just the bizarre Snow twist.

I put together a budget (with names in the lead roles) and I have a few demo songs that don't make me cringe. I'm starting to put together a few website pages that I can direct anyone with cash to. It's a trillion to one shot, but I have nothing else to do with my time.

Could you just check out this song demo page and tell me what you think. Does the song play all right? Is the page too bland? Overall impression.

This is the first page I've done. I still have to put together a home page with the sales pitch. But, once they go through that, this will be the first "Demo" page.

Thanks: George

Welcome to the human race! :lol:

Yep, needs a password, as IndieTalk said. Since you mentioned it, why are you not putting your free time into looking for a job? Personally, I can't make projects unless I have steady income. I went through a rough patch, from 1992 - 97' and I didn't make one short movie in a 5 year span. Not until I had my shit together. Mind you, I had made up to 7 shorts, per year, when things were normal.

Of course I'm looking for a job. I just can't even get an interview. I'm signed up with at least 7 different agencies where I've passed all their tests with flying colors. Not one will get me an interview. Companies on the east coast don't put ads in the paper anymore. They go through agencies, and these agencies want young people. I apply to at least 10 - 15 jobs a day. NOTHING.

What's this password? This is just a page like any of my other ussinners page.

I was just curious. Thanks for the response. Like I said, I had a hard time when I first moved to Las Vegas. I tried everything from Valet parking to selling perfume on the street. I didn't know how to drive a stickshift, going into the valet job. Of course, my first customer pulls up with his date, driving a stickshift. You should have seen his face when they asked me to fetch the car and I brought it all the way back in first gear!:D

Good luck with finding something. It sucks out there, right now.

When I click on your link, it takes me to your page and then this box come up, saying:

"The server host273.hostmonster.com at cPanel requires a username and password."

I"m trying to refresh the page, but I keep getting the password popup. I can click that box off and I can see the page with scene description and song lyrics. The part where you click on the demo is just a blank, white rectangle box and it seems the password is for that.

Maybe someone else can try, as I'm not sure if I'm getting the old page.

This has been the story of the past 5 years of my life... 10 years of experience doing High End IT work, 100s of resumes sent out, 3 interviews.

Too many unemployed, not enough jobs. I've gone back to school to get my degree to try to get more interviews, because the ones I've had have been good.

I wish I could get an interview. Every interview I've gone on, I've gotten the job. Every temp job I've been sent to, I've been offered full-time employment. I took these stupid ass tests at agencies, I scored 100% on both alpha and numeric data entry tests. Years of experience and a perfect score, not even a bite.

I just clicked on the link from my first post and it plays fine. It's strange. Because if I ever get it all set-up, I want to be sure the people can view it with no problem.

I think this is what is causing the "password" issue.
<object width="320" height="21" title="">
<param name="movie" value="https://host273.hostmonster.com:2083/3rdparty/wysiwygPro/media/player.swf" />
<param name="flashvars" value="file=movie/Look%20At%20Me%20Now.mp3&width=320&height=21&showeq=true&autostart=false&repeat=false&shownavigation=true&fullscreen=true" />
<param name="fullscreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="21" src="https://host273.hostmonster.com:2083/3rdparty/wysiwygPro/media/player.swf" flashvars="file=movie/Look%20At%20Me%20Now.mp3&width=320&height=21&showeq=true&autostart=false&repeat=false&shownavigation=true&fullscreen=true" fullscreen="true" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed></object>

And the direct link to the MP3 is here - http://www.ussinners.com/movie/Look At Me Now.mp3

So putting this whole "Flash Player" thingy in your website is causing everyone all sorts of problems, and doesn't protect your song at all from copying.

That said, the song is very nice.

The song is good. Nice instrumentation, but the voice sounds like it's in a box and not up front in the mix. If you can't redo the vocal, I think you could get away with riding the gain, so the instruments don't overpower it, in parts.

I am officially back in the employment game. Get this: From 76 - 85 I worked in factories and warehouses. From 85 till 09 I worked in offices. I'm not picky about work, I'll work anywhere as long as you pay me. I went to an agency for a machine shop position, which I have no experience at. I went in with another guy, who's about 20 years younger and has about ten years experience on me in the field. I got the job.

Graeme: How were you able to see all that? More importantly how do I fix it?

Thanks everyone about the song. The reason the vocal is so low is because it's me. I can't sing. Before you say "You sound good", there isn't one note that I sang that was in key. I just took the entire vocal and fixed it in MELODYNE. If you've never heard of this software, it's INCREDIBLE. You literally take a track download it into the software, then allow it to detect the melody. You then can see on a graph what notes you sang. From there, you click and drag the notes into key. It has it's problems once it detects the melody, but for the most part it's astounding.

When I get the main page up, I'm going to inform people that the music is entirely demo. Most of these songs will eventually be sung by women.

Congrats! An employer has to think about the long term relationship with you and not just your experience. You will probably be better at taking direction than the guy who may be set in his ways.

Reminds me of an acting audition we held on my first feature. This guy came in and had a lot of experience. He made that clear and then instead of just standing on the 'X', he says, "I'm going to step into this." My thought was that this guy is going to go about everything his own way, instead of doing what we asked, so we chose someone with less experience.

The lesson is, when you go to an interview, let the boss be the boss and you listen. They like that. Kind of off-topic, but there's another bump for your thread! :yes:

Thanks.

That's funny about the audition. When I was working as a stage manager, we had this pretty talented kid come in. He was a "Method" actor. I should say he was a freakin nut. The show closed after a few performances because he went insane on stage. He'd do whatever he felt was right at the moment. It was blocked he should be on his knees begging forgiveness. Instead he was lying on a couch tossing pillows up in the air. He tripped one actor, and hit another with a cane. None of this was blocked and he was completely uncontrollable. One night the fists started flying during intermission, and finally all the other actors refused to do another performance with him.

The most incredible part, the head of the theatre cast him in another play.
