Most people reject labels anyway because they can come across as pretentious... it's really others applying them. Unless they are the job description type label. Example. A renown artist may call himself a painter, or "just" a painter.
You have to celebrate accomplishment though.
When you are writing stuff that nobody else wants to read... and when you keep at it and eventually you are writing stuff that you have people willing to pay money to read it. Thats such a huge milestone and it does deserve a label.

I would be eyeballing you pretty damn hard man... I would be very skeptical of you as a professional comedian.
How much of that comedy was really you... idk. Because you've got some damn funny people in those credits.
Then why aren't you applying the same rationale to Melanie? Are you implying the writers she co-wrote the songs with are not worth anything? As I said it is the nature of music industry for the singer to get more credit than he/she deserves.

Well for one she doesn't have bradley coopers money to hire the best songwriters?
The only reason she got any recognition in the first place is because of her musical talent.

It's very different when someone that is a multimillionaire goes out and hires the best co-writers dont you agree?
Also there is only one writer and one director for her movie k-12 so she did that all be herself it seems.

But point taken about the songs. It's really hard to say without knowing who wrote what parts.
I don't expect her to have written every instrument for it

For the record, I had never heard of Melanie Martinez before this thread. And what little I know besides what's here is what I found on IMDb.

But one follow-up thought: the person who is credited for writing a book or a screenplay (and songs may or may not be similar) is as much a legal decision as an artistic one. I ghost-write screenplays quite frequently. Sometimes I write from someone's story idea, and other times I re-write from a first attempt at a screenplay. I'm paid for my work but not credited as the writer. I'm fine with that. But I'm (very) far from the only person who does that kind of work. So just keep that in mind.

I don't think melanie gets any time on the radio so I'm not surprised you hadn't heard of her.
True about the ghost writing as well. It's so hard to know who wrote what... the whole country was fooled by milli vanilli at one point.

The Good:

This was the best way I have ever listened to a new album. So cool!!
I wish other singers would do something like this. So many new songs and videos all at once, all linked together by a story.

The Bad:
This film gets by on melanies music talent. The other characters besides her lack depth.
And there is not very much suspense throughout the movie. The story parts needed to be stronger.

Definitely something for her fans to watch and enjoy... if you dont like her music though you wont like the film.

Sadly that is the case for me. I started watching it with the hopes of watching a movie. The second she started to sing in the bus, that was a huge disappointment to me I turned it off. Was never a fan of musicals. And it felt like more like a dozen music video clips stuck together rather than a movie.

Oh well I was definitely expecting it to be a musical. the wheels on the bus song was a weak one to start with though
