I am a regular browser of freecycle.org for my area. If you aren't checking it out every day you're missing out on great stuff. I've gotten carpeting, TVs (great for the kids playroom), a stereo, bookshelves and all kinds of Foley props - especially dishes and other stuff to break.
Tonight I scored a box of Auralex sound treatment - it's worth about $450 and I got it for a 90 minute round trip drive!!!
