Locations?

Can anyone please point me in the right direction to where i can find anywhere that posts about locations, whether or not they are free or incur a charge.

Is there anywhere on the Indie talk where you can post/blog about locations

Regards

For general questions, I'd check out the Pre-Production forum.

For specific location fees, it all depends on what you can arrange, and that's if the owners/trustees let you shoot there. Your local filmmaking community is probably a better source for specifics. There's a lot more to locations than this short answer...

Good luck!

There are many locations websites here in Los Angeles. I know
of some in other cities that have a lot of TV and film production.
Are you looking for locations in Los Angeles or cities in the States?

If you are interested in locations in the UK you can use Google.
I typed "filming locations UK" and found a dozen sites.

Try http://www.locations-uk.com/
and http://bit.ly/uafwis

Or are you just asking people to post about their personal
experiences with filming locations? I think you will find
that most of us simply approach the owner of a location we
would like to shoot and ask for permission.

You can post on sites like Talent Circle looking for locations but the response will probably be quite poor.

As Rik says, your best bet is to approach people privately but failing that your cheapest bet is to contact your local film office which for you is presumably Surrey Film Office.

Private location companies tend to be a little expensive as they are looking to attract either studio film productions, music videos or professional photoshoots. Might be worth a try if you want something very specific. My Mum lists her house on Lavish Locations which is but one of the many private locations listings in the UK.

Just because I always have to say it...

Scout your locations for their sound as well as their look.

Right on, Alcove. Sound travels really well in the big outdoors, and some sounds you may not notice until shooting day and you call "quiet on the set." Bring your people skills for the neighbor who decided to chop wood/mow the lawn/have a party/fix his Harley/etc./etc...

There are online sites where owners can post their properties which they think can be used for filming, one of which that I always visit is the Lights On Location site where location scouts (like me) can find available properties anywhere in the world that can be used as a film location From houses, swimming pools, barns and so on. Their site is http://lightsonlocation.com. I don't have an idea though if Indietalk has a place where you can post blogs about locations. Try sending the administrator about this.
