When I was growing up he was one of my idols. A Hammond organ straight into a Marshall amp; he could make that thing scream, wail, moan and cry... the perfect companion for Ritchie Blackmore.
 
Yeah really sad...another legend in the rock music world passes away. Lord was an absolutely brilliant keyboardist. Many moments of genius in his playing. Songs like "Highway Star" where his Hammond lead, followed by Ritchie's Strat lead, captured me as a teen and helped define my journey as a musician. So many people hear the guitar riff in "Smoke on the Water" and don't actually realize that the organ is just as significant in that riff too.
He will be missed.
