Job Offer

Ha! I love the bit about "brain surgery for an orphan"

Job hunting sucks, and craigslist can be a good place to find opportunities, but sometimes there are things like this. Don't forget about temp agencies; I've always done pretty well that route when jobhunting. Temping kinda sucks, but temp-to-perm isn't a bad way to go.

I use agencies, and my talent is vastly abused. My last positions (most temp) I was making what I used to make back in the 80s. My unemployment per month doesn't cover half my mortgage. Thankfully my income is second in the household.

My biggest problem is I'm OLD. I'm in my early fifties (though most people think I'm in my forties. What the fuck is the difference?) and employers want young people. Even though I'm excellent in my positions, I have a hard time getting in the door. Who wants an old man when they can have a young lady?

You are one of the few.

My last job (which says they are calling me back soon) I was hired with a beautiful young Hispanic girl. They gave her no extra responsibility over what we were hired for, basic customer service. I was doing the same thing + creating, updating, mailing lists and spread sheets. Purchasing all the chemicals for manufacturing + assisting accounting. There were four of us and if there were 100 orders, I'd do 60 of them. When busy season was over, everyone of them sat all day long on facebook while I did everything (which didn't amount to a lot). I was the only person that never raised a voice to a customer. Even the owners used to yell at the customers. I got an e-mail from the employee who was there for years asking how to create and print labels.

Yep and they laid me off.

My boss literally told me, that he needed to divide the work between everyone else. He couldn't have them all sitting there doing nothing.
