You've gotta admit it's a bit funny - someone so phenominal at acting in commercials they became a national sensation - fired because they're not good at acting in commercials? It's more of a comical issue to me than a serious gripe.
Only other thing I'd like to add.. there are plenty of directors that prefer to work with amateur first-time actors.
