Is there anything cheaper/better than this 40 volume collection of stock footage?

http://www.fotosearch.com/stock-photo-bundles/TME805/

I was searching for stock footage for my documentary the other day and found this collection. It contains pretty much everything I need, from the 3 Stooges to Antarctica to cityscapes to the Pacific NorthWest. Wow.

As I'm new to all this I have no idea if there's better library footage out there, or if I can get hold of ths stuff for less than the 1400 bucks they are charging.

1. Is this a legit, fair price or are they reselling something I could get for cheaper?

2. Are there any other footage libraries out there that are better or cheaper?

I'd really appreciate an answer to this as it could make or break my budget.

That's a nice collection for sure, but only you can determine if it's worth it. Will you use a good amount (in either your current production or future works) of this stock footage to offset the investment ?

Google for public domain footage/film, and if you're willing to filter through all the archives you may find what you need. Here's one example: http://www.archive.org/details/prelinger

Hell yeah, I can think of a use for at least 3/4's of the collection. 1300 dollars is well worth it, I can get hold of the cash. It's just I know that there's tons of scams on the net and I wondered if they were reselling something I could get for myself for free.

Checking out those links now, thanks.

So it looks like Getty Images is the commercial arm of Prelinger. What I love about the collection I linked above is the diversity of clips...

It is a legit, fair price.

Cheaper doesn’t usually mean better. As bird suggested you could
do all your own research, find the clips you need, contact people
who have high quality copies and work out a deal. Or just use the
low quality clips you can find for free.

That’s cheaper.

What that library offers for the 14 large is a time saver. Someone
else already found the clips, did the legal research to determine
they are in PD and put them together.

It contains pretty much everything you need without going all the
leg work. Sound like a great deal to me.

Fair enough, as long as it's conformed by one or two people in the industry I'm OK with the price. People try and rip foreigners off daily in Asia so I've grown super-wary.

That's what I was thinking. It'll save me literally hundreds of man hours.

1. The deal is on a bulk purchase. Do you think they'd offer a discount in return for their name on the documentary or is that a stupid idea? I can provide strong evidence that it'll very likely be seen by over 100,000 viewers. Do they get people asking them this every day? Any ideas how to approach this?

EDIT: Dammit I should stop being so tight and just buy the thing outright....

2. Are there any creative restrictions on Royalty free footage? Can I color correct, slow down and zoom as I wish?

Thanks for the quick responses to this question...
