Introducing Dim and Helium Cow Films

Hey there! My name is Dim. Well, obviously, that's not my real name, but that's beside the point. It's always nice to put a picture to a name, so here I go:

I'm fifteen years old and British and have been making films since I was ten. It's my biggest passion and what I really want to do with my life. I have joined this forum in the hope of getting feedback on my work and discovering new ways to improve my film making.

The latest film I have made is a remake of a film I made all the way back in 2007 called "Snakes in a House" (an obvious parody of Snakes on a Plane).

Snakes in a House

But this is not the type of film that I usually make. More often than not, I create far longer comedy-drama type films which I hope hold some artistic merit, as I always attempt to explore the human condition throughout my films. The latest one of these films I have (partially) made was "Dateless Losers", a sequel to my previous film Empty Love. However, it was cancelled before I even managed to get half way into the script. I was very proud of myself for the script of Dateless Losers, however, as I managed to write 119 pages, which is by far the longest thing I have ever written!

Oh, and before you watch (more like if you watch, haha) please don't be harsh on the film, especially the acting. It's hard enough creating these films when I literally have to do everything myself, and it's impossible to acquire people around my age who can actually act to star in my films. So I just scrape together whoever I can get. They don't do too bad a job, and neither do I, haha.

The next film I plan on filming is "Kim", a spin-off sequel to my previous film Infatuation starring main character Charity's best friend Kim. I wrote the script in August but have not been able to start filming due to people being busy. However, the script is available on my deviantArt account and I would love to get some feedback regarding it! Script for Kim on DeviantArt.

It seems fitting that I might as well give out all of the links to Helium Cow Films related things now.

The Helium Cow Films YouTube Channel
This is where I host all of my videos! I have everything I have done on here since "Dirge of the Dead", a film I made at the end of Year 8 using my Middle School as a setting. Please subscribe, it would really mean a lot.

The Helium Cow Films Blog
Ever since the beginning of this year, I have been keeping a blog about my film making. I always imagine it as something so show potential employers or investors when I'm older, haha. I think it's a really great resource to have, so I can go back and see all of the ideas I have had that have gone into my films.

The Helium Cow Films Facebook Page
Yet another way of me desperately trying to promote my films, I created a Facebook page. Please "like" it!

The Helium Cow Films DeviantArt
This one is new - I decided yesterday to upload all of the scripts I have ever written (since Rebound, which I wrote in July 2009) so that I could have a resource of my scripts on the internet. It's easy to see how much I have improved over the past year!

Erm, I think that's almost everything I wanted to say. The script I am currently writing is "Development Hell", which is somewhere between semi-autobiographical and self parody. It's about a teenage amateur film maker, Martin, and his struggles for recognition and respect. I kind of think of it as a cross between Stardust Memories and Extras.

Anyway, I hope to become an active member of these forums and furthermore improve my work as much as possible! Thanks!

Dim.

Dateless Losers is pretty funny.

Your comedy instincts are really impressive, and your stuff is something to keep an eye on in the future.

The acting isn't that bad at all really, but some of the scenes (Like the Titanic bit) are kind of rushed and would have added favorably overall to the mix had they not been, however in the greater scheme of things it’s not a big deal in this.

Is there a part 5 and so forth?

-Thanks-

Thanks for your kind comment regarding Dateless Losers :) The whole "Titanic" thing was supposed to be a throw-away joke, so it was kind of rushed, but in the end it was picked up on more and more and in some ways motivated later parts of the plot. It's really strange how things like that develop.

There are only small sections of a Part Five to Dateless Losers, which are not on YouTube (maybe someday, but I don't think they are of a good quality). The script is up on the Helium Cow Films DeviantArt, which I linked to above, and if you're interested in knowing how the story ends I suggest you read it. For something that was written months ago, in the space of a few months, and for something as long as it is, I think it is pretty impressive for my age.

The things I have written since Dateless Losers, such as Kim and Development Hell, are far better though :)

I'll check them out some time. (I'd be good to know how it ends I guess.)

It's true, you never do know what might get worked in or yanked out by the time all is said and done.

Keep at it and keep us posted.

-Thanks-

I am also British, although I have brown hair.

Welcome to the forum, I just watched the first 40 seconds of Snakes In Da House, but then YouTube bitched out on me.

Keep trucking.

Thanks once again for all the nice comments!

I'm somewhat glad that people are finding Dateless Losers funny - nice to know that it appeals to more than just teenagers. Not saying that it really appeals to teenagers either, seeing as most of my friends can't even bring themselves to watch it!

Just wanted to say here quickly that I finished the script for my latest film "Development Hell", which is a semi-autobiographical and a self parody film based to some degree on myself. It's about the struggles of a teenager amateur film maker searching for recognition. It was mostly inspired by the British TV series "Extras", especially the Christmas Special. The film begins to drag, I think around page 30 when it enters a section of the plot that I think is terribly under-developed. A lot more could have been done with the character of Paul, but I was stuck for ideas and I really wanted to get the film finished.

Anyway, the script is now up on my DeviantArt page. You've got to click the link to the PDF on the right hand side of the page to view the script.
