IndieTalk: The Movie (Story Development)

Here's where IndieTalk: The Movie's story will be discussed & developed.

One person, one script. Then multi-crews around the world doing their part of the filming, and then different post people.

Outline/Plots that we will choose from:

A) (Post 23) People for some reason attend a seminar because, then are hypnotised/manipulated by bag guys with an agenda of some sort

B) (Post 14 & 15) Spam/magic email - an email or website causes people to do something

C) (Post 34) A group of people enter an online competition to prove that they are the world's greatest lover -- everyday they are given the profile of a specific person and then they have twenty four hours to find someone who fits that profile and seduce them -- the evidence is a JPEG of them in bed with the seducee (not a porn shot!) -- it all starts fairly easy -- Round One (pull a Blond) -- but by round three it's (Pull someone in uniform)

D) (Post 60, 64, 65) What we are doing now, make the film, but a dramatised version.

E) (Post 26) Some unexpected large-scale incident happens, and we follow how it effects each different person

F) (Post 46) The Game

G) (Post 52) Some of Poke's ideas)

H (Post 56, 59) Internet searches deciding what/where the film goes/does

I (Post 88) one unifying 'event'

J (Post 89) Angel of Death falls in love with a beautiful Goth Girl

K (Post 92) The Unwilling Rock Star

L (Post 99) Death

M (Post 107) The Postman

N (Post 108) The lost pen / The eys of a restaurant fork

O (Post 128, 133) Double Date (Bad People)

P (Post 129, 131, 132, 136, 137, 139, 140, 147) The Pen

Q (Post 155) Grannys DEAD!

Hey everyone -- just as a reminder, this thread is specifically for story development. If you have ideas for the storyline/plots/characters, please post them here. If you want to offer other assistance with the movie, please post in the recruiting thread

http://www.indietalk.com/showthread.php?t=9851

Or send a private message to the producer -- Contempovision Films.

I was very pleased with the ideas that had come from the other thread, specifically the non-glove puppet one of Clive's. An email (I suggested prophetic) arrives to various inboxes. Someone else had suggested that perhaps it could herald a death upcoming, but it could also lead characters to their true loves, repair old relationships or lead characters on an amazing journey of some sort.

Just for my two cents, I'd like to stay away from death and horror if we can. I'll still work just as hard on it if that's the route it takes, but I'd love for it to be heartwarming, funny or sad rather than creepy.

great... Clearly Lilith and Bophe were not meant to work on the same project.

Just kidding Lilith!

One of the logistical challenges with the Gemini Project was that the episodes centered on a character. Kind of like the old HBO series "The Hitchhiker." That poses a problem when different team start making episodes -- how do you get different people to play the same character? Best to be avoided if you ask me. The first short should obviously stand on its own, but set up the possibility for a second episode should it ever get made.

I know that doesn't say much--but we have to start somewhere.

Rather than a character be central, wouldn't a central theme or device make it simpler? That's what I was thinking with regard to the email thing... Then Bophe could kill someone off with much gore, and I could help someone else fall in love. :)

reiterating for contempo:

The films main idea: 1 film. 1 filming crew. Many writers. Many different post crews such as editing, composing, sound...
Then after this project is completed, we have the option in making films that continue from the main film/story, all around the world.

Cheers knightly.

HERES THE STRUCTURE of the film. The first film can centre around whatever is going to happen to these people. Say if its filmed in the usa, we can have a few different characters, not knowing eachother, that 'appear' to be in different states of the country, with the same thing happening to them. Then in future 'sequels', if people want to make more, we can show the spread worldwide with what ever happens, filmed in different countries. So maybe, the issue doesn't really get fully resolved, so it leaves the door open for these 'sequels', but give enough for it to be a stand alone film. Look at Lost, they never really tell me much on the surface, but i keep watching it like... Well theres no other show i watch as much, so...

It's still a very attractive and exciting idea, which is ALOT more likely to actually be 'finished'. I say it with ' ' because if we only do one together, it will still be able to stand alone. But we can/do have that option of the sequels.

Here, here, Lilith. No violence, or limit it if possible.

I like the 'magical' email idea, it has legs, IMO.

A person receives an email from XXXXX, a name or ID that someone would not automatically trash, they open it and a message appears that says something to the effect of:

Dear Mary Jones,
The wallet you lost three years ago can be found at Main Street and Vine, tucked under the city trash bin.
I left something in it especially for you.

Cheers,
XXXXXX

And Mary is then goes after the wallet, and begins a journey that leads to compications, romance?, intrigue?, comedy?

Perhaps a few people recieve a mysterious email and are each sent on journeys that finally, in one way or another, cause them to meet... and then..... ???

Well, it's a start....

WDYT?

Now we begin to tackle the universal human issue of SPAM. :P

Funny enough that this is being done over the internet... ok- here's my "what if?".

What about an online contest people enter (to win some new-fangled prize or whatnot) where the conditions are that no matter where they are or what they are doing in real life, they MUST enter a website/chat at a specified time every day (and interact somehow) or be disqualifed.

The characters briefly interact with each other online, and each sequel can follow a different person as they struggle to re-balance thier life with the 'cyber-schedule'. You can have some nice scenes where people have to rush down a crowded street for a cyber-cafe to log in; easy-to-film scenes of people on thier computers finding out crucial plot information; mystery in the nature of the prize and the contest organizer(s); love can develop online and translate into reality; love can develop offline unbeknownst until the lovers realize they are competing online... you can even have some sick bastard going around chopping the fingers off the other contestants so they can't type.

I dunno. Just a skeleton. Lemme know opinions.

Aww. Was that for me? Thanks, man!

I like the idea there Spatula. My only concern is--how well will it stand up if there is only one movie ever made from this project? Let me give this some more thought...

Spatula, thats a pretty good idea, but with the sequels: the first film is gonna be done by a single filming crew. Meaning the different characters in the first one, will be different to the ones in the sequels, get me? I think maybe these characters you are talking about, can be done/finished with their part of the story, but the same issue continues with a little different spin on it on the other side of the world for the sequels. Maybe we dont fully finish the happenings to the characters, it will leave that umm, what next element that will get people to want to see the sequels, and rather just finish what happens to these certain characters? What do you guys think about that?

Well, I was thinking chaptorial- each character(s) would have thier own short, and each short would deal with their story in the plot. Each short would have to also drop a "seed" (or two) for the next short to pick up on and create new characters.
I just thought it would be a way for each short to basically be like the flashbacks from Lost (exploring each character), whereas the main plot (who is behind this all? who wins? what do they win?) could be paced throughout the shorts. Based on the success of the first one (which would have to set up a lot), there could be multiple spin offs simultaneously. Hell, concievably anyone who watches it could probably find something to spin off with the same theme, and the incentive would be to have the "best of" onto a DVD compilation. Then use Cootdog's distribution project to flagship it. So deep. Deep fried. Mmm.

But let's keep throwing ideas up.

EDIT: Essentially, there could be a set of characters for each prod. co. that wants in, and they could do as many sequels as they pleased with thier characters, while new peeps could jump in with original side-plot shorts anytime. At least, if the idea changes, it seems like that kind of format would be interesting.

Just thought of an idea that would definitly tie in to letting us do sequels over the world. Theres this one guy/group that is holding a seminar. Its like a one time only thing, where everyone want to come cause what they are offering to do sounds so/too perfect. It is only held in the usa (if we shoot the first there) for say 3 seminar nights only. Now maybe they hypnotize/or do something to the people that go there, and then we follow these people off, doing what they are 'told', and so on. We could chop and change between the group and the people that attend the seminar and the group that did it. Now the way we could make it so we can do sequels is that we only show the first seminar, and the people that go there, in the first film. The other seminars, we didnt see the characters that attended, so we can start with fresh characters. Now i said this seminar was too perfect, so in the dialoge, we can say in the first one that they "thank everyone for coming from all around the world to attend this once off seminar". Then, in the sequels, we can see maybe what happens to those characters with what happened in the first one, or even have something else done to then, so it ties into the first happening, and furthers whatever the group ius trying to do?

What do you guys think about that?

I like the contest idea, different people from around the world desperately going after a goal. I'd be careful about depending too much on computer messages to forward the plot, maybe?

But, doing something on this order would allow us to incorporate footage from around the globe. If this is going to be a global production (and it is), it seems like we should capitalize on that. I'm thinking of the PR value, now, and not so much about logististics. I.e., " A group of filmmakers from around the world have worked together to produce a truly global endproduct. Most of them have never met face to face, and yet they have succeeded in writing and producing a film that incorporates footage shot in XX different countries....." OK, that's putting the press release before the horse, so to speak. But it sounds cool.

On the other hand, there was some logical discussions put forth on the difficulties of shooting scenes with separate crews?

Maybe a short simple story that's well executed is best for this kind of thing.
