I'm a virgin - please be gentle :)

Hello everybody.
As the title says I am a filmmaking virgin and need to learn more about filmmaking. I recently got my first DSLR camera with decent video recording capabilities and I made my very first test film with it. I took the camera out of the box, loaded the battery and started filming. This short film does not have much of a story to it and some rules (like 180degree) have been bended a bit :).

Give me feedback, critiques, input, advice and so on. It will be migthily appreciated.

And without further a do - i give you "The Box" - cheers

:director:The Box" - short test film

Sweet! There's newbie stuff you can nitpick for sure, but it's better to be out there working on stuff than spending two years reading and analyzing trying to pull off something way out of your experience level and never getting it done.

Haha, keep it up! Best thing to do from here is to pick one or two areas and focus on them till you have a good feel for them, then on to the next area. Maybe lighting, that 180 line, some set audio, etc... Just pick one and jump in!

Tnx. I agree with that assesment. One should sometimes just DO stuff without overanalysing everything. This doesn't necessarily makes a better end result but at least it puts the stuff out there where you could get critique, advice, suggestions.

Heh, sounds like you went a little overboard with the creaky noises.

Gonna work on a film with a story next?
Well.. i think is such a cool and old looking box that it deserved som creepy creaking. I did perhaps make it too creaky but, trust me, the real sound it makes when you open it is horrible :) and i don't mean that in a cool horrory kind of way.
As I mentioned, I just got the DSLR I am using and it is my first one so I have to learn its tweaks and capabilities. I have allready shot and released the second testfilm on my YT channel wich is also some sort of comedy short. It has more story to it than "The Box" but still I regard it as another test film.

Jesus for an out of the box maiden first short, this is plain amazing !
Is that color corrected or straight out of the camera ? (I'd say CC but i don't know the T3i).
Thank you very much, that was kind. I wouldn't go so far to call it amazing but it is not all too bad considering.
You are right, I did some CC in the post. Untouched raw footage it produces is so sharp an color saturated that makes it very hard to color correct right. So I am experimenting with different settings. I have recently installed Technicolor's Cinestyle on the dslr and that is supose to make footage more suited for CC.
