I want to test my filmmaking knowledge..

Hi, I want to take a test to see how much I know about filmmaking. All I can find on the internet are movie tests, which is not what I want. I know some books have quizzes at the end of chapters, but I'm not too sure which ones do that. If anyone has a filmmaking final that they took at a university that they could scan, links to online tests, or anything really, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot. Brett.

I never went to film school. I didn't even graduate high school.

Do film schools actually give students tests on paper to determine
their filmmaking knowledge?

hrdcorbassfishin, you should make a short film and show it to people.
That's a great way to see how much you know about filmmaking.

I appreciate the input guys, but this actually isn't for me. A few people I know want to know how much they know about film theory to see if they need to do further reading.

We do make movies, but ANYONE can make a movie. Not anyone can make a movie with meaning behind it. Yes, they make you take tests at film schools.

The tests you get in school for filmmaking are making films. Film analysis is a different story, but more essay type questions than true false, since it's all interpretive.

I'm forty-six years old, I've made two features and a couple of award winning shorts and am just about to spend three days staying with an Oscar winning director while we talk about an international co-production... and, I can tell you without a doubt that your guys haven't done enough reading... I know that because even after twenty years as a professional writer I still learn something new nearly every single day. If I haven't done enough reading, chances are you haven't either.

Forget the tests... make films. It's the only way to learn. Tests only tell you if you can answer questions and the it's also not true that "Anyone can make a film"

Only test of a film maker is an audience's reaction when their film goes to screen.

Whether it's for you or others, film theory is not the same as filmmaking.

Can anyone really make a "movie"?

If I shoot video of my dog taking a crap, I've made a home movie.

If I shoot the same video with the dog crapping on a picture of a political candidate, I've made a statement.

If I cut that together with various camera angles and set it to music, adding a young, professional, overall-clad pooper scooper who finds the photo, cleans it off and puts it in his pocket, I've made a narrative short.

Yes, it's a crappy short, but you get the idea.

So, I agree that if you want to test your theory of film, go out and make one. If the audience craps all over it, they've made a statement. If you film that and cut it together with commentary and narration, you've made a documentary. ;)

And I agree. Anyone can make a movie. Just look at the majority of YouTube. What a mess. Someone should clean that up.
