I thought up the perfect film idea!

It came to me last night the perfect idea to do....and I'm trusting I can put it here without it being taken by someone else ;) lol

I read/watched on Youtube about this script called Atuk that many believe killed John Candy, Belushi, Chris Farley and Sam Kinnison after they all read it and that no one will touch the script because they believe it's cursed. So I thought of doing a story on how the script is cursed and about the new crew of actors and cast who tried to do the cursed script and the horrors that follow. I think this is a unique idea in that: 1) it's based off of true events and 2) it's a unique idea. I don't know of any film about a cursed script killing people and causing the film industry to be too afraid to touch/film it. So what does everyone think huh?

There have been many movies made about a cursed (fill in the blank)
killing people and people being too afraid to touch it. You're right;
no one has done a cursed script.

As with any idea it has the potential to be a great story. Are you
up to the challenge of turning this perfect idea into a perfect script?

Oh HELL yeah I am!....I mean, yeah, sure I am up to the challenge, yes :) lol. Seriously though, I've been thinking about this idea for a while now, I think if written right, it can be truly great and made inexpensively with psychological scares instead of blood and gore like we're used to always seeing. I think it could be really great.

Sounds like "The Ring" which involved a video instead of a script. It's also similar to Aaron Vanek's film "The Yellow Sign" (2001) about a cursed play that drove people mad based on a set of stories by R.W. Chambers. And it certainly draws to mind Lovecraft's Necronomicon which often leads to madness and death for those who dare to open and read from it. Even the "curse of Macbeth" has been dramatized.

As Directorik mentioned, it's not unprecedented. I recognize each of those instances are different from a cursed script. As with any project, it's all in the execution.

There are also a lot of web stories that involve that concept. Creepypasta has two that come to mind. One about an arcade cabinet that everyone died after playing it and then it vanished. Then another with a writer searching out a story about a lady who had a cursed floppy disk with a single image in it "smile.jpg".

You gave examples for the others... except this one... which is my favorite of the ones you listed... so enjoy:

The Evil Dead

I think you should definitely do a little research into "The Scottish Play" (Macbeth and it's superstitions/curse). I'm not saying you couldn't turn your idea into a good story/film but certainly knowing about the supposed curse of Shakespeare's play will give you a better perspective on the uniqueness of your idea and maybe give you some ideas of how to avoid any inevitable comparisons.

There’s also the Poltergeist curse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poltergeist_(film_series)#The_Poltergeist_curse

It’s a nice idea with some potential. I’d certainly say go for it.

You’ll need a good reason that this script is cursed. Is there just one physical hard-copy that is cursed? Or is it the words themselves that are cursed, meaning that any copy (even a digital copy) can cause death and/or destruction?

Also, I’m not sure using the deaths of real actors in this would be the best bet. I think it would be unnecessary. You can create your own history for this.

One thing to keep in mind – you say it could be made inexpensively; I’m not too sure. Of course, it depends on how you define expensive. But what you write will have a huge bearing on cost. I imagine that the film would follow a current attempt to produce the script. That would likely involve a crew working on a movie set. Your typical audience member will expect to see the big lights, the big cameras, booms and dollies, the dozens of people normally required to make your typical movie (at least in the mind of your typical viewer). All of that would get pretty expensive, pretty fast.
