I've been using a USB 2 card reader so far. Companies like US Robotics are making USB 3 card readers now. I am thinking of investing in one to import HD Video footage faster.
From what I am reading in the owner's manual, I can also attach a Firewire cable to the camera to interface it with the computer as well.
In my experience a good card reader can be significantly faster than using the camera. If you're using large cards it's definitely worth it to get the fastest reader available.

Although 64 Gig memory cards are available, Canon recommends using no larger than 32 Gig memory cards for best results. So, I have only bought 2 32 Gig cards so far.
