how do you give a film this kind of feel

Parts of it were shot in the morning, early early, other parts in broad daylight.

Thing is, my guess--from the footage look, I'd say they're using an Alexa so the dynamic range is there. Thus the importance of expensive cameras.

If you want to get this with smaller cameras that have less useble range, you have to bring equipment or literally shoot on an overcast day.

This is one of those times where the camera and lens is important. As is
lighting and production design. I'd say there is very little color correction
other than the standard scene to scene. Did you see the lens they used?

One can get close to that look with color correction alone, but to get a look
like that you need some excellent equipment and some talented, experienced
people.

whats an alexa? and what do you mean by dynamic range?

Alexa is an 80K+ Camera made my ARRI that shoots 1080/2K Video footage of a pretty pristine nature.

Dynamic Range refers to the measurable amount of detail a sensor can net from the black to white, or dark to light.

You're seeing a combo of high end digital tech with a decently trained eye.

From the start of the video (I didn't watch it all the way through) it looked like specifically chosen spots at a specific time of day so that the talent wouldn't be stuck in broad daylight. That makes it a lot easier in post to tame hot skies, etc.

Does MTV not have a color correction guy? This is weak. An alexa can do better than this with a factory preset.

Looks like an angenuex 24-290 for the lens. 80,000 dollars. 25 lb.

The new Robin Hood with Russel Crow is shot on a similar rig, same look, but it's a hundred times better than this in terms of final quality.

How to do this look? This is the look when you aren't doing anything. Really lazy MTV.
