Hi! I'm Japanese filmmaker.

Hi! I'm Hitoshi.Nice to meet you.

I would like to voluntarily screen a movie I took in the US next year in Japan.
I also want to do indie filming and other activities in the United States for over a year.
The question is, where is the most prosperous area of indie movies in the United States?

Help me!

In addition, Atlanta and Albuquerque are very prosperous for indie filmmakers. Austin a great place for indie filmmakers. I was in Portland recently - there is a lot of indie film making there. Much more that I ever expected.

Welcome to indietalk.

Thank you,mlesemann!

Los Angeles and New York are popular! Great! Is there a difference between the movies made in the two cities?

Welcome to IndieTalk!

The largest indie film communities are in Los Angeles and New York City, but there are filmmakers all across the country.

Thank you, directorik!

Portland has been introduced as a wonderful city in Japan. But I didn't know that the movie was prosperous!

In Japan, indie movies are not popular in Tokyo.

I want to do indie movies that can't be done in Disney or Hollywood.

So, I want to know the movie situation in each region. Is there a website that has such a set?

That's an interesting question. I've only worked in the NY market, so I can't speak to the LA side of things.

The one thing that comes to mind is that many actors in NY work in theater (plays/stage) as well as movies. I'm not saying that they're better or worse, but their training and focus may be a bit different.

There's an increasing amount of television work being shot in NYC as well.

Are you working in New York? Very exciting!

I think New York has many avant-garde stages. Also, since I have an image of Woody Allen when it comes to movies in New York, I feel like Los Angeles and New York are different.

How many indie films are made in New York a year? Also, how do they make money for indie films?

(In Japan, only about theatrical release is about 100. In addition, part-time jobs are the main focus and crowdfunding has not yet grown.)

Chicago is booming right now. I'd say it's an overlooked place for a lot of Indie Film. I'm up in Michigan, but working with several Chicago based professionals.

Thank you,onebaldman.

How many indie films are shown in Chicago each year?

You gave me great information.

I was struggling to find out about English-speaking movie sites, but with my information, I became more knowledgeable about American indie films.

Thank you!

By the way, which of Chicago's indie films are more studio shots or outdoor shots?

That I don't know. I'm just sharing the overall news reports I've been seeing the last past year.

You could base your choice off of competition or tax incentives rather than those kind of details.

What does a tax incentive mean?

It's an unfamiliar word when shooting movies in Japan.

Does this mean that tax is deducted when you make a movie in the US?
