Hey, from NYC area.

I'm Greg and a college student. I live near New York City. I'm not studying film in school, but I really want to. I didn't do very well in high school to get into a good school with a film major available. I taught myself the processes of making movies by reading books and just observing things. My high school had no film in it's art department, which discouraged me, so I started a film club there. I think the reason I didn't do well in high school was because I wasn't interested in anything and I just made films. I submitted a film that I didn't think was very good, to a film festival for high school students in the specific county i lived in. I didnt win anything but it got selected. 10 films were selected out of over 100.

I continue to try to make films even with school going on and i try to become better with each film i make. i saved up money through the years to get equipment. i own a sony hd camera, specific model is sony hvr-v1u. and i have final cut studio 2.

i will try to be an avid poster on this site. seems like a lot of great people are on here. hope im accepted lol.

When did New Jersey become "NYC area"? Lol. This must be a result of the stigma created by all those reality shows, and now "South Park" has added to the ridicule.

I bartend in a hotel. This weekend, we had a great deal of people travelling in from Jersey, for a wedding. I'm convinced, now more than ever, to never trust anything I see on a reality show. These Jersey kids were some of my most favorite guests ever. They were nice, came to have fun, got their drink on, and tipped fat.

Anyway,

Hello Greg! Good job getting your first film into a local festival. That's fun, and a nice accomplishment.

Welcome.

But with 3D glasses it looks like you're in NYC

I kid you not, a couple of the dudes at my bar, this weekend, had glasses bigger than those guady 3D things we're supposed to wear in the theater. And they were wearing them at night! Nevertheless, by the end of the night, I was considering moving to Hoboken!

Greg, which part do you live in? That entire area fascinates me, to be honest. Capitol of the World.

I never said I lived in NYC haha. Near and around NYC, to me is NYC Area. If somebody lives outside of LA, they will still say they live in the Los Angeles Area. Even on LinkedIn, I put my new jersey zip code they automatically put "Greater New York City Area" on my profile.

Anyway, It's somewhere I would actually like to move to in the future.

Welcome Grasshopper!

I'm one of the audio guys here.

Keep in mind that the search function is your friend. Everyone here is always very glad to help you out, but a lot of the "basics" questions have been asked and answered many times.

And always remember:

"Young man, how is it that you do not?"

Dude, I was just having fun with you, and I never said I thought you were saying you live in NYC. I just thought it sounded odd, because everyone I've met who is from Jersey (your part of Jersey) says that they're from Jersey. It's different in other places, like say for example if someone is from Tacoma, it might be easier for them to say they're from Seattle, cuz most people have no idea where Tacoma is. Jersey, however, everybody knows where that is. Jersey, though part of the NYC greater metropolitan area, is it's own thing, it's own identity. I wasn't trying to make a big deal out of it; I just thought it was funny.
