Yes screenwriters, although in the minority of popularity, still have a responsibility to present well founded and truthful presentations. I have not been present on this filmography forum for any lengthy period of time but I have already seen some presentations that are tantamount to slander. This sad fact is disturbing. However many of our peers are honest and genuinely stable in their determination to maintain a dignified reputation.
