hi.

i use a canon hg10 also. it has some good points and bad points.

it has a mic input so you should use it.

i find the level markers useful also, i use the single white line to balance but the grid is also useful for framing and composition.

it has white balancing and settings for different lighting situations, using white balance takes a second and will save time in editing.

use the manual focus, it's not the best control system but it is worth getting used to it.

buy spare batteries!!! the battery lasts about 1 and a half hours, buy a couple cheap ones, they will do the job.

a handy tip. if ur subject is backlit by the sun. press the display button so the display is showing. now if u press the 'playlist' button u will notice a little person and sun icon, this will
help.
