Hello Indietalk Community!

Hi, my name is Dalton Coffey, I am 18 years old, almost two years out of highschool, and I'm from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. I am an amateur (non-working) writer, animator, soon to be amateur stand up comic, and aspiring film maker! I've been working on creative projects for as long as I can remember, and have always been extremely fascinated with the art of film! I've recently come across a decent enough camera (though it would be gutter trash in your eyes) and have been shooting some b-roll for my upcoming project. It is a documentary about amateur stand up comics and open mic-ers, featuring myself and other upstarts from around the city. I have put off production until I can get a good enough external mic.

Hopefully I will be able to share some of my work with you all soon, but as you know, it is a long, arduous process. Until then, I hope that you all will accept me into your online community, and allow me to grow along side with you!

That's awesome man! You don't see alot of film makers around here! Well, at least I haven't.

They're around! I'm on the music end of things myself. Some things to check out if you haven't:
http://pfm.pittsburgharts.org/pfm_home even if you don't take classes at Filmmakers, they've got a bulletin board in their office where students sometimes post help/crew wanted ads, and you can put up a flyer to say you're available if you want to help out on someone's project, and get some experience under your belt to work on your own.
http://www.pghfilm.org/ Check the postings here; you can sometimes find opportunities to PA or be an extra on major local projects (like the Batman shoot this past summer)
and, of course,
http://www.48hourfilm.com/pittsburgh/ My favorite way to learn! If you don't have a team, look up last year's teams and see if anyone needs a hand. There's even a "join a team" link, to put yourself out there for people looking for help (which works; that's how I found the team I've done the past 3 years with). At the very least, you'll meet a lot of other local film makers!

And, of course, all the other local schools with film departments (AIP, Point Park, Pitt, etc), though sometimes it's hard getting into a school you don't attend to find the bulletin board. This is true of Filmmakers too, but they've usually got someone manning the desk you can talk to.

Get yourself out there! And as you learn, you might run into some people with the equipment you need to take the next step with your documentary! This is not a bad town for film these days!

Wow, thanks man! This information should really come in hand! Hopefully we'll run into eachother out there some day!

I'm one of the audio guys here.

"Young man, how is it that you do not?"

Welcome, I'm working in Pittsburgh now as well. There's plenty of filmmakers, they just don't seem to know how to connect around here.

Shoot me and email sometime at craiginzana@gmail.com and maybe we can collaborate on something, I'm always down to help out an aspiring filmmaker.

Do you think that if we keep welcoming him, two months later, he'll come back?
