hello everyone

hello, i'm from Slovenia and up to now i've been mostly into photography, mainly interested in commercial shots, people portraits and such. i've always had a hidden wish to work with video aswell.
i hope my knowledge of photography will do me good in this area, i think it'll be of some use, especially in the area of lighting and composition- what i have most trouble with is making that first big step and buying the right gear.

i don't wanna make another topic so i'll ask right here;

me and my small team decided we are going to make an amateur mini-series, we have the script done (for weeks now), we're lacking an actor or two and of course, the gear!

i'll be using my lighting equipment from photography and i'll buy some reflectors, but i'm concerned about the camera.

we don't want to spend more than 250-300€ for the camera on ebay, for that you can get a camera worth somewhere around 350-500€ new.

naturally i'm looking for a camera that has an external mic option and manual aperture, shutter and iris control. i'm not concerned about the quality of the video as much as i am about the stated specifications.

do you have any tips on what to buy? basically i've been looking at really cheap camcorders with these specifications, some are:

canon fs200
canon md101
one of the panasonic GS180 or something series

thanks for your help!

Welcome

You should put this in a different thread, you'll get a lot more answers.

For the sake of it, in your situation, you should rent, not buy. You may be even lucky enough to get the owner come along with it and help you out.

thanks for the welcome!

no, no i don't want to rent because after this mini-series i plan on slowly building filming skill and doing it more and more, so i definitely want to buy.
anyway, do you have an opinion on the cameras i listed? why wouldn't they be a good idea?

You may plan on building up, but you do this with collaboration, making projects and contacts, people that will join you along the way. You do all this, meanwhile saving up, THEN you buy your equipment. The budget you have right now won't get you a long way, search around your town for willing collaborators with equipment.

If you can snag yourself a cheap camera to get yourself used to filming, I'm not saying that's a bad idea, go for it. But take note of everything else I've said, you'll hit the ground running.

You've mentioned Video, lighting, have you thought about sound?

ofcourse i have, i plan on buying an external mic with the camera, that's why my condictions for the camera is having an external mic option and manual exposure and focus options. if it has that i don't care about anything else.

do you have any recommendations on what camera to buy?
