good eqiupment?

ok, I bought it! And I didn't even do it online! I happened to find a store that actiually had the mic I wanted! So when I come in its on clearence 100 cheaper than original or online. I ask about best xlr cables and he gave me the ones below. It all sot a bit, but not much more than I was expecting, and I believe I got the best things. Tell me what you think of each of these items, as they are returnable. (k, not mike)

I got the rode ntg2

Thats what they had at the store. I figured buy everything at the store while I was there. But this cable is 20 ft.? And I would use it with the monster cable?. It would replace the other two connectors? Srry so many ?s. Thanks a lot!

He's saying one less link in the chain. That has XLR to mini all in one. Less signal loss without all those connectors.

Your mic is the male (pins).

He would not recommend it if he didn't think it was good. It's not very expensive because it's simply an XLR cable with a mini-stereo end.

It's okay quality-wise.

My preference is Pro-Co cables, but they don't make an XLR to mini-pin. If you're good with a soldering gun you can make your own. I use Pro-Co bulk cable and Neutrik connectors.

You should really consider an external recorder like the Fostex FR-2LE or the Marantz PMD-660.

Lots of people like the new Zoom, but the pre-amps are quite noisy IMO, and I hate noise.

You could also consider the juicedLink or Beachtek.

just call me crazy

but i would get an XLR to XLR and then and adapter or short adapter cable to go to the camera...and would have 2 of each if you have the money. you will always need them in one form or another down the road and if there is a problem with one you will have a backup, and if you use a better camera or into a mixer you will already have the XLr cable for it and the other adapters will always come in handy for something else.

if they are good quality i would not even think of any signal loss. we use adapters and cables all the time...from mics to power to transmitters from the receivers to the mixer, from mixer to decks and so on...so one little adapter is not going to make a difference worth thinking about.

I kindve thought what dave said. I went back to the store and found a 3.5mm to xlr converter while looking at the cables from mogami! (The guy got those converters last time for me withut me looking). When I discussed it with a guy there (different than before) he said actually mogami would be best. I think IVe heard this brand mentioned before and this guy seemed to be understanding me and my uses more. I bought a 25ft. xlr mogami cable too, and now have the converter cable (1.5ft) and xlr (25ft.) both from mogami. They seem good, and its actually about 25$ cheaper overall than my previous setup. And I have one less connection. And good brand. And all fits perfectly. Im pretty sure this is a good setup, but feel free to leave opinions. I tested them out with my new ntg2 and compared it to similar footage of my friend just talking in my home and amen you could tell! Plus, the setup was easier than I anticipated. I just connected converter, cable and mic, put batteery in mic, and voila it worked perfectly! It sounded good, and it seems perfect. I found a paint pole at menards that screws into the clip that came with the ntg2, and its up to 12ft, which is fine for now I realize. This seems like a good and VERY fairly priced buys, and At this point I am happy. Any suggestions, though, hit me. Thanks for ALL ze help, and now I believe I will start movies VERY soon.
