Funny story between me and a cop .

So here is the story.

I am shooting a short film ,but it is my first one.So from time to time while im shooting I have really weird chances of getting a great shot without planning anything.

So I was just coming back from the local shop when I saw a police car parked infront of my house. It was the perfect shot I needed. So I got my camera and got the car from every single angle.

But I though this wasnt enough , I knew the cop was in the dentist's house just right my house .

I started waiting and waiting , finally he got out from the house and I started shooting him . I was acting like Im just fixing some stuffs in my camera ,but then he started smoking and looked directly into my lenses .But I didn't stopped , I said ' This will be a great scene no matter what ' . He looked me for a few seconds and then he got into the car and just left.

And this is a perfect scene for my short.

I'm considering adding it.

I'm 15 years old , what's the worst they can do to me ?

I'm from a small country , he will most likely never see it . But if he does :S , well ..it's a small country so he'll kill me most likely.

What would you do if you were me ?I think im adding it.

That's pretty lucky!

In the states you have the right to film/photograph police officers while they're on duty, but you should definitely check your own country's laws on that!

So now I'm curious as to how a scene of a cop smoking for a few minutes alone with no dialogue and no other scenes with him fits into a short, most of which are just a single to a few scenes?

Does this shot help or support your story or not? Does it move the story forward? If it does - hell yea add it. If it doesn't save the footage and use it some other time for when you ll need it.

Well it's a little gangster film.

So at the end of the film , with a voice over , I will explain that in small towns like this you can pay few hundred bux and the cops can check the wrong house and you can get away from the police .

This is my main idea .

(...) he'll kill me most likely.

It was nice knowing ya, dude. :mope:

That's not always the case. There are thousands of incidents of citizens being arrested for documenting the police in public; sometimes being detained without charges for several hours, and sometimes charged with breaking state wiretapping laws, obstruction, or similar crimes. Sometimes even from the safety of their own private property. (Her supporters then had a visit of their own) Here's a quick news blurb about it and here's one about a kid who was totally asking for it.

Be careful, and know your state's laws... and local law enforcement temperment.

Filming people (including cops) in public is legal in most (if not all) of the United States of America. However, you would still need a likeness release unless it was legitimate news footage. Also consider that he is in Bulgaria. I imagine it would be a VERY different story, especially considering that the voice over is basically saying that this cop is on the take. In the US, you would be looking a potential libel suit.
