Food for the cast and crew

I'm curious on what do you guys feed your cast in crew on a small budget? I can't really offer them a full catering service but I'll definitely anything I can to keep them full and less cranky... :D

Yes, it would be great if you could do with a 4-5 hours shooting, but usually our experience is 8-12 hours ones, so we needed to offer three meals (breakfast, lunch and tea).

We have prepared food ourselves for some shootings too. Catering or hand-made, that's up to you, but you always need to have water (loads), juices or soft drinks, coffe & tea and snacks (sweet and salty) at all times. Also for the food, be prepared to have some variety in case some members have special needs (no sugar, etc)

Hope it helps!

I work at a college cafe so I just told my manager what was going on and he was nice enough to throw me some free stuff for a weekend shoot. Few three foot subs, chips, a salad, dried mango peels, plus coffee and water. Stay away from unhealthy fatty foods. They will weigh your crew down and make them slow. Try to keep it all as healthy and tasty as possible.

While I respect a filmmakers desire to provide only healthy food I
have been on both sides (crew and producer) and have seen very
unhappy people when only healthy food is provided. Salty and
sweet snacks are what many people love. As a crew member
working for free as a favor I do not like it when only healthy food
is available. Healthy food is essential for those who want that - but
not providing chips or cookies or soda because the producer wants
the crew to eat healthy is (in my opinion, of course) foolish.

I have seen crew members leave the set to make a soda and chips
run when the producer has left those items off the craft service
table. The producers job is to make their unpaid crew as happy as
they can - not to control their diet while on set.

Amen Rik.

Yes, there will be some fruit, hummus, carrot sticks, etc.... There will also be plenty of chips and candy bars and super caffeine and sugar filled soda. I'd buy them crack if I thought it would make them work better/faster.
