Do you have a YouTube channel?

I’d love to connect and check out your content if you have a YouTube channel, especially if it’s anything to do with films and filmmaking. Drop your channel link below so we can share some creative vibes!

I’ll go first, I make videos exploring indie filmmaking through film critiques, real-time editing sessions, and sharing effective low budget hacks for aspiring filmmakers. I just started the channel last week. Check it out and let’s connect.

I liked your channel. Very cool midi and keyboard stuff. Do you still do movie scoring?
Yes. My channel is definitely a mish mash, because even though I am a filmmaker first, editing and scoring them is a part of that, and I end up in a lot of gear discussion. Occasionally, I score other people's projects. I think THIS performance video is my favorite for showing that process. I'm also scoring one of Tom Sizemore's last projects.

I just finished DRONE DOWN and am currently editing/scoring EVIL DWELLS WITHIN. Of course, I do that trailer music as well.

If you watch just one or two shorts from the channel, I suggest BUG COMPLEX and CONTINGENCY PLAN

I see that you use DaVinci Resolve have you used Premiere Pro? If so, which do you prefer and why?

I know this question was for Chris, but I have both, as well. I used Premiere Pro, from 2000 to 2019. I still have it, along with the entire Adobe suite. But, I have used Davinci Resolve, since 2019. The main reason is because I shoot BRAW, with Blackmagic 4K and 6K cameras. As long as you shoot native ISOs (400 and 3200), you can change your exposure in Resolve, after the fact! This feature just blew me away. No more worrying if I botched the shot a little.

Also, the gyroscopic data embedded into BRAW, turns your camera into a hand held steadicam. I generally use a gimbal, but this is so handy for run and gun. Just stabilize the shot, after the fact, in Resolve. I'm loving the other tools, like dialogue isolation, etc. You buy a BM camera and you get a Resolve Studio license. No Adobe subscription needed! I still have it, because of all my past work with Premiere, After Effects, and of course Photoshop.

Here's an example of Davinci ISO changes.

Oh wow, I didn't know that about the blackmagic cameras and resolve. Changing the exposure and easily stabilizing footage in post could be a game changer. I know a lot of people are switching. Wonder if Adobe will pick up some of these features in the future...

I love the LEGO. I see that you use DaVinci Resolve have you used Premiere Pro? If so, which do you prefer and why?
I haven't touched Premiere since 2015. Avid was my favorite, and I almost used it on my latest movie, but decided on Resolve so that I could edit the 4K RAW footage natively. I use Avid style shortcuts and tools with it. Premiere used to crash on me multiple times a session. I've never had Resolve crash on me once. And I like that it has industry standard color, as well as a world class compositor and audio program - though I prefer Nuke over the Fusion page.

I've only dabbed with resolve, never done a fully project form beginning to end in it. My next big project I am might give it a try.

Some of them no, some of them yes, and some of them are hybrid. I've spent the last three and a half years building something called the save point pipeline, Which combines a considerable number of technologies and old school filmmaking techniques into a pastiche that creates the looks you're seeing in these videos. The entire labyrinth alpha one series is made by hand in unreal engine 5, River was a type of hybrid test project that leans more towards AI. There are a few videos that are purely AI such as wave or cloth world. The big demos such as save Point V8 are the full hybrid pipeline which includes all techniques wherever they are most effective.

i'm not having AI make the film like many others do, I'm typically making a film and then running it through a custom ai pipeline I built myself to create a specific visual style. This offers a vastly higher standard of control over things like camera movement and actors that isn't available from any of the off-the-shelf ai solutions right now.

I spent around a decade and a half as an irl filmmaker shooting on a red epic, Mostly corporate work and independent films, And have released or worked on a number of live action film projects in addition to many animated shorts.
