DIY Belt-driven IGUS 1040 slider with crank

Spent some time over the holiday break adding a belt drive to the IGUS slider. The goal was to have a backpackable lightweight slider.

More details and photos here.

Wow, thats neat..

You bought a premier membership, and this is your first post? I call marketing plant for IGUS sliders.

Are you REALLY interested in what this group has to say about your slider? PM me and Ill send you a shipping address and Ill be glad to review your product here.

Thanks

Wow, what a welcome.

No, not a marketing plant for IGUS. Not building and selling these either, so I'm afraid I can't provide you a free one. If you google this, you'll find this posted on other forums that I participate in. If you actually look at the article you'll notice that nowhere do I extoll the virtues of IGUS over other linear slider systems. This just happened to be the right size rail easily available for puchase.

As for the premium membership - that was the only way to gain access to this area for reading, not just posting.

Hey KOKO, your human POINTS FOR YOU!

I'm very please to be proven wrong. Welcome to the boards and thats a cool bit of info. Are you working on this to help with your own video productions?

I love this list, its SO TRUE. Once I got the drill press, I could do about anything!

Drill Press
10" miter saw and 10" metal cutting blade
Drill and Tap set

Welcome KOKO....and I will love him, and pet him, and hug him, and squeeze him.....:)

Looks like a good piece of kit you have there.

Thanks.

Yes, building things for my own video projects. Will have more posted in the next few weeks. I'm a one man crew, so the goal of all my gear collection is to be as light and portable as possible.

I've found that if I can't do a build with just a drill press and a saw, I have no business attempting it.

Dang! If I had read that last week I might still have my left hand ring finger! ;)

But seriously,I get the one man band blues from time to time.. though Iv since discovered its not necessary with just a little effort I can find help for most things..

A google search of "IGUS 1040" came up with, on the first page, 4 hits (the others went to the igus website) of you posting this exact same post in 4 different forums where you also just signed up.

Just FYI to the others.

Busted.

Suck it, Koko. None of us want your stupid product. We might have been interested, had you been honest, and not hit us with this subversive marketing campaign.

Lucky for you, this is happening in the Premium Section, so not many people are seeing it. You want a do-over? How about you go into the non-premium section, and feel free to hawk your product. But don't insult our intelligence.

Wow! Please show me where you see a "Buy" button on my site. But ok. I will not post on your forum any more.

I think if you look at the 4 other forums you'll see that I'm a "senior member" with 3 out of 4, having just joined Cinema5D recently. However, considering the overwhelmingly warm welcome in this community I'll post my info elsewhere.

I'd like to take this opportunity to belatedly apologize for our community's reaction to this post. Sorry I didn't catch it sooner, we could have avoided all this kerfuffle. I've reviewed your site and notice that you've gone so far as to provide a parts list for the DIY folks amongst us... thank you.

We've seen far too many folks come in precisely this way, with a first post that ends up being a sales pitch. The community reaction you've seen is borne of that expectation. Personally, I'm excited that you've found this forum and posted your VERY professional results - which always excites me as a DIY guy.

I hope you can see past this and stick around, you'll find that the community is generally quite welcoming, we've just been jaded by folks pretending to do what you're doing, only to then try to sell it to us and lie about their intentions.

Again, I apologize for my fellow board members.

Please excuse the rudeness here! IndieTalk is known for being a very friendly community and I'm not sure why these members have acted this way. I apologize on behalf of the community.

:welcome:

PS. I will not stand for members running other members off of the forum. Offenders will be dealt with.

How slow will that servo run? I had another though, if you were able to tie the handle to the starting end of the slider with the camera pointed the other way, you could get the head to turn slowly as well with the move to get a wider move + parallax effect :)

I think I'd want a bit more control over the panning. I'm starting to plan the next project which should have both linear and panning motion + computer control. This slider is good enough as a test, but now that I've played with it, I want repeatability.

I smell a DIY Motion Control rig! What are you using for the motor? Is it possible to copy the plans to hear so they can also become part of our DIY Database here (which is the purpose for this part of the forum).

I'd also be interested in trying to concept some sort of non-computerized motion control rig for the non-chippy folks. That would be fun ;)

The motor and all other parts are listed on my site. I'm using a continuous servo from ServoCity.com - their controller too.

While I'm happy to share the details of my projects, I do prefer that the content remain on my site.
