I've recently secured the second real investment in the Deathworld project, and wanted to get some feedback on my current purchase configuration before placing my final order. (sineater should be happy to see this)

Right now I'm looking at

2 Arri Lighting kits

including

1-150w
1-300w
4-650w
1-750w
with all filters, stands, umbrellas, etc.

a complete Kessler system
including

18 foot Jib
Tripod
Fluid head
K-pod System
Robotic pan tilt mount with motion control system
12' slider

Field monitoring system

power cables

10 2TB hard drives

That kessler system is the shiznitz man. I want me one of those.
Does that system you put down there include the dolly tracking system? Cause I'd definitely make sure it was included.

My only question would be do you already have a generator(s)? If not, I'd set aside some money for at least one or two. Look into used military surplus generators. They're generally very well maintained and you can pick up 5-10+kw models for what a new commercial 1kw model would cost.

Id swap out the crane for the pocket jib and a good 100mm ball head. The pocket jib goes almost as long, and has more utility in my mind, though there is some weight concern with the red. The remote head seems unnecessary for most things, and if you do anything REAL fancy you'll need a remote FF.

The Epic body is (iirc) about half the weight of the ONE body, perhaps even less. That's a decent start on reducing the size needed for infrastructure.

Given the types of shots Nate has in mind, I would say a Cmotion or similar system for follow focus is going to be a must after a certain point.

Lighting kit looks interesting, if a little less than versatile. You might consider some lightpanel 1x1s since a great deal of your plan involves shooting on location. Running those off 12v battery can be a lifesaver in many cases. Also, I might go with a single Arri kit and add a compliment of used Kino's (2x fat mans, 2x skinny mans, 2x fat boys, 2x skinny boys) into the mix. Very useful for day to day corporate/industrial stuff, and one of the quickest ways to light a portable green screen or white seamless.

Get lots of gripology. More than you think you would ever need. One can never have enough sizes and shapes of flags and nets.
