I have made an independent foreign film and have found a US distributor. But the film is not rated yet. Do I need it rated to be able to sell it and how much is the cost. I've been told its about USD 2500. sounds like a lot. Need advice.
$2500 sounds about right, but if you have a US distributor they generally float the cost of it. You should double check with them. And no... not all distributors require a film be rated.
If the US distributor requires a rating then you need
the movie rated. If they don't require it, then you don't
need to get it rated. The distributor picks up this cost.
It's about $3,000
I don't know of any distributor wanting a rating for indie movies, unless it's the next Blair Witch Project. Just rate it "unrated". Done. Save $3,000. Screw the MAD mothers.
