Can someone critique this trailer?

Hi, I'm editing this film called Vitality, its a small post-apoctalpytic flick about teenagers running around trying to find their parents. Sort of.

This is the first teaser trailer I've made for it, using alot of After Effects and compiled in Premiere. It's color corrected mostly.

I appreciate any feedback, as the rest of post-production will take me months and anything I get during that time will help me with the end product.

Thanks,

As a teaser/trailer:

What is it telling me? Give me a one sentence description of the film, and have the trailer tell me what that sentence says. Not sure I'm getting that from what I saw.

Add some sound effects...gun shots, heavy breathing, running sounds....just the music makes it feel like a music video.

Regarding the music:

Is it original music? Fif not, have you gotten permission from the owner to use?

If you don't have permission, even posting it on youtube is a violation of copywright. Just something to keep in mind. No festival will accept it without something showing you have permission to use the music.

good point foret, it was a trailer so i just had to find some music. irresponsible of me.

the actual film and most other trailers will have self composed music

It sounds like a song that would play in the Gap but you're showing a massacre. Doesn't match in my opinion.

This bit jumped out at me so much so that I felt I needed to create an account just to voice my opinion on the matter. That sounds quite aggressive and as if I'm going to rip your opinion to shreds with reckless abandon, let me just say that is not the intention.

I liked the song, and for me it was the highlight of an otherwise (really, no offense meant) average trailer. It juxtaposed well with the subject matter, a nice happy song playing over an apocalyptic clip. It's almost like it's a remnant of what was lost. To me it said, "this used to be a nice place" when quite clearly everything has gone tits up, ya' know the whole zombie thing.

I'm not going to make a big deal of the fire thing, you're working with limited resources, I respect that.

What I saw of the zombies was really promising, but therein lies the problem. "What I saw of the zombies"... There is no 'peril' in the trailer. I would relate to the characters a lot more if I saw some evidence that they are just human, not supermen who are impervious to zombies. If for example I saw a group running and one guy fell behind and got munched on by the zombies, that would immediately make me relate to the survivors more, because they are "survivors" not just people running from the school bully.

Everyone learns with every attempt. Here are the first things that pop into my head. Keep your action in front of your actor(s), do not center your actor(s). Law of thirds -- your shot composition(s) are kind of weak. Also get a steadicam and/or use a tripod (even with dutch and low angles). WHAT are they running from? Music is kind of HUH? Everything should be a part of a story, so what is your story? THEN reduce that into a trailer.
Keeping making stuff. Compare it with what you see on the big screen. Learn. Shot to shot.
Remember the more video/film you shoot (and edit) the better you get. The better you get the more you will do it (feed back is a great thing to have)... and the comments above from others are very good...
