Brave. Tell Me This Doesn't Look Cool.

The thing about pixar.. is that we are basically watching Spielberg in his prime unfolding. It's hard to realize in the present tense but.. (boy would I love to have been 16 at the Jaws premiere.)

Wow. Just awesome. I enjoyed most Pixar films (and loved Up), but this is the first one I'm REALLY excited to see!

Simple but effective.

Disclaimer for would be CG artists. The clip shown here is most definitely not simple. Integrating Vue, Max, Combustion, Vray, and rigging a smoothly animated horse and character riding it is a crazy, crazy amount of work. Not to mention it's perfectly polished (so double that gargantuan number of man hours)

"Simple is not easy." A straight line or a circle is simple; try to draw one freehand - not easy.

Actually, "simple" is one of the hardest things to accomplish. As my wife likes to point out, nothing is harder to make than a "simple" black dress. The simpler something is the more flaws glaringly stand out.

So both of you are correct, it is very simple, but it was not easy to accomplish.

One of my favorite aphorisms is "Filmmaking is the art of the invisible; if anyone notices your work you haven't done your job."

Along with that is "K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple, Stupid!" The more complex you make something the more opportunities you have to screw it up.

Back in the early 80's, when I was first learning computers a tech gave me the best advice I have ever gotten regarding technology; and a lot of other things. He told me that "It's really very simple, but there is one HELL of a lot of simple." That is what keeps you from being overwhelmed when you take on a huge project or problem.

If Pixar made infomercials for the lap band I would still pay $15 dollars to see them.

Sounds kind of like Gerard Butler's VO.

I've been close to working on a Pixar film and I'm still crossing my fingers...

The film does look good, I just got put off slightly by the description saying it involves three comic relief characters as well. I'm just afraid that the more serious-side of the film will make those characters glaringly out of place and ruin a section of it, but Pixar know how to make good films, so I'll trust in their ability to mix the two.

Ha.

Wasn't talking about the lovely art and animation. I was talking about how little info was presented in the trailer, yet it still worked.

Amusing how we all like to read what we want into other people's words. :D

I think that's an honest mistake for a CGI artist to make on a film board. You posted something really complicated and said it was simple, that was my perception. We all see the world from our own pivot point.

I am eagerly looking forward to this-my understanding it's going to be a little darker and mature than their previous work. Really like Pixar going with a female protagonist.

I think what will happen boxoffice-wise, I think it will critically acclaimed, 150-200 million domestic, but this isn't going to be a film where parents can take their 4-5 year olds, going to be geared for preteens up I think.

So while I am expecting a great film-I'm also cautioning myself that this film won't be for "everyone" :)
